Hi all. We are going to spain next year for the first time and according to mulit map from Calais to Girona is 750 miles (approx). We will stop at the port french side friday night and leave first thing in the morning. We want to stop half way thats about the 400 mile mark for the night which is round about clarmont ferrand. Any ideas for a good campsite as its only a stop over for the night we are not botherd to much about showers and such like. Do the french have the equivalent to CLs sites that would be perfect. Does anybody know any good routes to take with stopovers. All help will be appreciated Thanks Richard W

We've done this journey from Calais to Bay of Roses many times and by several routes. My favourite, and probably the cheapest is AutoRoute from Calais to Rouen, then N154 to Orleans. Join the A71, then A20. There are two overnight stops we've used. One is 355 miles from Calais - at Gracey (A20 junc9) Camp Municipal St Phalier, or another 50 miles towards Limoges at Municipal de Janas. Both sites are delightful stops and both beside small lakes. On the second day, continue on the A20 to Toulouse, then A61 and A9 to the border, something in the region of 400 miles.

Hi Richard, for overnight stops look at this site - http://users.pandora.be/leo.huybrechts/camp1.htm - which provides details of sites all over Europe. If you click on France you can pull up a list of sites near motorways which is really useful. We used this to select a Camping Municipal which was only a few miles off the autoroute and was excellent for an overnight stop. Hope this helps, Simon

For your route and the distance you say you can do, there is an excellent all-year site at Orcet, immediatly south of Clermont Ferrand> It's about 2 km from the motorway exit and quite easy to find - details in CC Caravanning europe guide. Camping Le Clos Auroy www.camping-le-clos-auroy.

There's a very large Auchun hypermarket about 4 miles away, back towards CF by the ordinary roads.

Bonne Route
