Stopover near Calais

We are looking for a stopover site for 1/2 nights preferably peaceful around 2 hours from Calais. We will be traveling from the Loire via Rouen on the A16

We have used La bien assise at Guines, this is very popular for Calais as it's about 30 mins from ferry terminal. It is a fairly large site but the pitches are also large, the toilet blocks are clean and it has a swimming pool, kids play area bar and resturant on site .Next door there is an excellent resturant however it does cost more than than the site resturaunt.

There is also Le Chateau Gandespette which has good reviews but we have never stayed there. Hope this helps

both very expensive as well.

John Jen try the municipal site at Chalons en Champagne - we stayed there on our way back from Switz at Easter - large pitches and all very clean for about 19 euros per night. It's about 10km from the Autoroute and there's a Carrefour just 5 mins from the site. Great market too in the town on Saturday mornings. It took us about 1 hr 50 mins from Calais.

We enjoyed our stay at Chateau de Gandspette, which has already been mentioned, but this is only about a half hour drive from Calais. Within you criteria, about an hour and a half away, one that we have used several times is 'Le Vivier aux Carpes', at Seraucourt-le-Grand, near St Quentin. This is a peaceful site, with fishing on site, good, clean, toilet facilities, a shop in the village and a bread-van each morning. Last time we stayed I think it cost about 15 Euros per night, including electricity. The e-mail is camping.du.vivier@wanadoo.fr.

An alternative would be 'Au Bord de l'Aisne' at Guignicourt just North of Reims. This is a good municipal site, clean and quiet and an excellent stop-over.

La bien assise is fully booked I tried them don't knoe about gandspette though. I've decided to take night ferries and save on the hassle.
