Suffolk Road Signs

On breakfast BBC they ran a clip about Roadside Signs being stolen and then melted down for scrap !!! These thieves don't care about safety of the motorist etc.

No speculation on who was carrying out these crimes now I wonder why that was not mentioned ????.

Thieves used to steal the roadside Snow Poles in the Highlands for scrap metal, and no one is ever found or proceuted for these soft crimes, albeit they are costing us all a small fortune.

I stress I just posted this to make people aware of missing signs in Suffolk. The Police have requested that anyone who may see anything suspicious even if they look like Council Workmen who are removing signs to call them

With the increased prices for scrap metal supermarket trollies and even drain and manhole covers were being 'recycled' in the West Midlands not long back.

Hi Gumbo&Parksy,

We in Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire had a bout of having these road signs stolen and with Suffolk being very near wouldn't it have been more sensible to have put up plastic signs which I would have thought to have been cheaper to produce and set up.

I just wonder why the police are unable to catch the thieves plus the guys melting them down, the smell alone must be awful when melting themdown(the signs). The trouble is people don't want to know when they see misdemena's being committed.Jimbob

With the benefit of hindsight, yes, and it's what they are using on replacements. But metal have a much longer life than plastic ---- providing guys keep their sticky fingers off them.

Please leave the signs as they are there for everyones safety.

But take the Safety Cameras as it would seem they are there for no ones safety.

From a recent survey some of the most dangerous roads have no cameras, I wonder why they are installed then????
