Hi Folks, Sorry to be a pain, I have just purchased a 2004 Swift Challenger 500se, can anybody tell me if it has an on board battery charger and if so where is it. I pluged the caravan into the mains hoping to charge the battery but without the handbook i'm a bit lost, the previous owner had lost the handbook.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Graham

There certainly should be a charger. Have you looked under the seat which houses the battery box?

On the back of the battery box there will be a distribution board and and that's where the charger should be. It won't look like a charger though, because all it actually is is a transformer.

There will be an on/off switch on the top of it.

This is all from memory though, it's been a while since I've dealt with one of these.

Graham, if Swift use the same electrical distribution items in all their vans, on the main control box there should be some small black rocker switches and some red switches which illuminate when in the ON position.

The small black switches, one should be a 3 way rocker, marked Van at the top(or bottom) and Car with the central position unmarked.

This is the source selector and normally shouldnt make any difference to the charging process, it just isolates the battery in the central position , or allows you to darw power from the towing vehicle in emergency.

One of the Red switches should be marked Charger, and this needs to be in the ON position to charge the battery from mains.

The actual charger is a built in part of the distribution box on which the switches are located, not a separate item.
