With my brand new Sterling Solitaire SB now just under 2 months old and still not used my dealer was this week able to tell me that TO DATE they have 14, that's 14 warrenty claims against the caravan, and that's without it being tried.
Well only small things like, stress damage to the fibreglass gel coat (still to be told how and when it gets sorted), new carpets (bindings all faulty), new Cooker door, right down to faulty lights and a toliet roll holder. One would thnk on a near £20k van (with the bits) that Swift could use people with eyes open to inspect the finished products. One wonders what percentage these defects put onto a new van, given there simply are no free meals in this life.
Of course that's all forgetting the costs to me of repeat trips to the dealer some 30+ miles away
The fun of a new caravan. Friends did warn me, sorry guys I will listern next time, if there is one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's bad Wayne.
These faults appear to have been missed both by Swift and the dealer who was supposed to have carried out a pre delivery inspection which you have paid for.

log the number of trips , the mileage and write to the dealership, copying Swift into the letter. Ask them to re-imburse you for your time and fuel .

I would. I have done in the past and Currys paid me £20.0.

Its worth a try.

It is common knowledge that very, very few dealers do a PDI as they prefer to pocket the money and leave it up to the customer to find the faults. You might as well insist on buying a caravan without a PDI as there will be no difference, but the stealer will not let you! Wasn't this PDI and delivery charge dropped on motor cars years ago yet the caravan industry insists on living in the past?

The dealer clearly haven't done what they have been paid to do, I wonder if Wayne could claim the cost of the pdi back from the dealer?

If a dealer had sold a new caravan to me and he then told me that there were 14 warranty claims against the caravan after they had released it for my collection I would have asked why these faults were not dealt with when the pre delivery inspection took place before the caravan was collected.

Wayne,

I'm sorry to hear that the issue is still ongoing. Based on your last posts, I had assumed that the problems had been resolved:

http://www.practicalcaravan.com/forum/general/swift-solitaire-sb-2011

I was involved in the issue you raised with regards to the "live chassis" which I understand was the adaptor being used, rather than the caravan:

http://www.practicalcaravan.com/forum/technical/new-sterling-electricals

If the issues have not been resolved to your satisfaction, or there are still other issues that need to be resolved, please do not hesitate to contact me directly, and I will make sure our Customer Care Team get involved again.

Thanks, and sorry once again.

Ash from Swift had tried to reply to this topic throughout the day but unfortunately the reply was sidelined by our ant-spam software.
I've only just been able to resolve the software problem so I'm giving the reply a bump

I think at this stage it is inappropriate for me to comment on the OP’s issues as Swift are trying to sort it out, but Surfer in his usual negative way has raised an issue an issue that I still find an anathema in modern days of retailing.

The PDI or pre delivery inspection. From a technical point of view if the manufacture has done their job right, a PDI should not be necessary, So not with standing the current need for these because of the poor standard of delivered items, why should the customer be expected to pay to have the manufacturers work checked?

The argument is then put forward, that the dealer needs to check the caravan and prepare it for sale, well yes they should of course do that, but that is normally part of the selling process and is not something the customer should be billed for!

PDI’s along with Delivery charges should be banned, after all supermarkets don’t separately charge customers for the delivery of the loaf of bread!

Hi, Pleased to say Ash has been in touch and made good positive vibes,it looks like Swift do really care and dispite their size can deal with the one off's. I am now awaiting their input on Monday and hope that the outcome will be good.
As it stands anther positive point for Swift, as I said, "things do go wrong, its how they are sorted which matters most.
Thanks for the comments, when it gets sorted I will let the Forum know how good or bad Swift were against the current indications

Look on the bright side.
In 1992 my swift challenger had 30 faults.
So yours is about a 50% improvement !

My 1997 Avondale had 15 faults.

And my 2004 Bailey a mere 20 faults.

Further to my last hopefull comment yesterday, Monday has seen Swift retract and no action other than a repeat of the current sitation, the issues of warrenty compensation etc has just been lost but I have promised Ash further time to see if even the bosses have the same "cannot be bothered approach" . From the blog on Swift piecework pprocesses seems as if the Factory Inspector needs to call as well as Quality Control

Much as I regret doing this, I am locking this topic.
This forum operates a very few rules, one of which is if you have complaints against named companies you must take the matter up with them.
Whilst I appreciate the siuation, as Swift have become involved, maybe with not the degree of outcome wished for by the OP, it isd not right to use this forum to broadcast every move either side make.
The situation ios clearly between Wayne, his Dealer and Swift.

Until the subject is fully sorted out, one way or the other, no more postings will be allowed.
