Switzerland stop over

Hi all, we've booked L'etoille d'argens near Frejus for July/August but are hoping to stop of for 4 nights in Switzerland. We would like to explore the area but not use the car if possible. We would also like to stay in a lakeside campsite. A take-away/restaurant would be useful and possibly an outdoor pool. (Don't know if you can swim in the lakes or not.) Not fussed whether there is a club as long as there's a good supermarket close by. Our children range between 7 - 16. Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks, Helen.

Switzerland can be a really lovely and exciting place for a holiday. We have stayed several times at Manor Farm ( booked through the Caravan Club ), in Interlaken. We bought a family rover ticket for 4 days and you can use them on the trains, chair lifts, buses and boats. As you would expect all the timetables 'fit'. We were able to plan a whole days out on the trains boats etc. We drove the short distance from the camp to the station and parked for the day for about 2 SF. Switzerland can be a very expensive place, especially eating out and general shopping. On our second visit we took quite a bit or fresh and frozen meat with us for the BBQ. I can suggest you visit the COOP in Interlaken for a meal.........a litle bit like M & S.........but they weigh your plate of food......the more you eat the more you pay. It worked out quite cheap for us......salads and 'fluffy' sweets are quite light.

As Barry says the public transport service in Switzerland is second to none so if you don't want to drive this is the way to do it. I would recommend Camping Jungfrau in Lauterbrunnen for a couple of days stopover, from there you can explore many of the popular places.

Hi barry we are going to manar farm in the end of july with the kids for 17 days, a few things how warm does the lake get and as we are going for quite a while we will need to go out shopping at some point for some meat where is the chapest place to get your groceries from.

If I remember correctly the lake was quite cold when we were there and there was no pool on site. In Interlaken itself you will find the coop supermarket which we used, but it was not cheap....I do seem to recall finding a smaller store near the West railway station. We were there for less time than you will be and we took with us a good supply of food. Are you aware that you will need to buy two vignettes, at about 40 SF. each. One for the car and one for the caravan. You can get them at the borders. To buy the 'rover'rail tickets go to the Ost station as it is bigger. This is where we started all our dyas out. Oh and remember that August 1st is Swiss National Day. The main Hoheweg or High street is closed and they have a wonderful parade with st Bernard dogs pulling carts with small children in them, Cows all washed and wearing huge bells and lots of national costumes. There is a brewery just out of the town alled Jungbrau or something and they deliver a mega barrel of beer to the casino at the west end of town. You can sample this for free..........At night there are some fireworks and bonfires are lit on the mountain tops.....it was quite a view. hope you enjoy it. Happy travels BarryB

Thanks for the tip's barry, I think I might take the wet suits for the lake,we had to buy the vignettes last year when we went to lake garda, as it happens we thought the price of food was quite dear in Italy as well.
