the ashes in cumbria

hi everyone we are going to the ashes near new hutton in cumbria next week for 6 nights.

my question is we are going up the A1 to the A66 then across to the A685 to the M6 im just wondering if anyone has used the A685 before and if its an ok road?

its a long way round for us but have to make a stop at the wifes parents 1st.

any input would be appreciated

Hi

The majority of the A685 is excellent. There is just one narrow bit through Kirby Stephen town, although this is controlled by traffic lights and caravans go through without any problems at all. There is a bit of a climb out of the town and a long descent down the other side to Ravenstonedale. The rest is eezy-peezy!! You won't have any problems using this road at all.
