First, may I say, "You just can't keep a good old ranting topic down."

And this is precisely what the debate is. I would implore contributors to keep their messages shorter as when I start to read I rarely get to the end if it's turning into a sermon. I know I have been guilty of this before, but the older I get the less "attention span" I retain.

However, from the bits that I have gleaned so far,

1. The more experienced at driving you are the better you are. That's gotta be true, just think what you were like when you passed your test and how you are now.

2. Bad drivers are allowed to purchase any sort of car they want, be it a 4x4, people carrier or hatchback.

3. Lisa has a pair of boxing gloves; wonder what she uses them for?

4. Forget the Middle East, if war breaks out it's going to be over the 4x4 debate. We may have to wait for summer though as the Anti's might get stuck in the mud.

My post was intended purely as a fun jibe in the same vein as mikes original post. I do not feel it's my place to slag off 4x4 owners ,being one myself. although I wonder why so many jump on the offensive any time a comment is made. If I could answer Steve's question. In a recent motoring mag the majority of people, women in particular, said they liked their 4x4s because they felt safer, which I found strange since most 4x4s have longer stopping distances than saloons, and perfom badly in the slalom test.

My Mum used to make me wear boxing gloves when I was in my early teens to help me kick bad habits :O(

I believe it was Clive who made a comment about Chelsea tractors not being fitted with a tow bar. I can confirm this as I bought a Daihatsu Fourtrack which had one previous owner and was a second car for the wife to take her children and neighbour's back and fore to scholl and for shopping. When I had the towbar fitted it had not even been drilled for the fixing bolts. Before anybody comments I have used the vehicle for towing a caravan and a 10cwt. goods trailer on many occassions - it is very rarely used on the school run.

The summer meet of forum contributors should be very exciting or dangerous depending how many anti and pro 4x4 members turn up. What mode of weapons would be used at dawn to sort this one out? The mind is now working in overdrive with the site manager going crazy with the fighting going on.

It was me who made the comment about towbars.

The fourtrack is a dam good vehicle, had to tow a porche home with a fourtrack once.

p.s. Didn't use the mirrors to put lipstick on though.

I use the gloves for boxing of course. We have an excellent selection of gloves in the gym. I've only just started boxing it's great fun but hard work.

Unbelievable!!! Shake my head in absolute disbelief.

How can anyone get so upset about reactions to what was supposed to be a joke, regardless of what side of the fence they're sitting on?

It's been a little bit quiet on the forum recently, without any contentious topics to debate. It's no wonder the forum goes looking for them. However you Lutz can sit pretty in your technical section knowing there will always be a call for your services, how we envy you! So until we can come up with new hot potatoes to scrutinise, some of the old mashed up spuds will have to do.

Unless you want to start something yourself Lutz?

There, challenge firmly set, shoot from the hip, that's what I say.......

Aren't women supposed to wear brightly coloured mittens with a little light skipping if fitness levels drop?

Don't worry about the meet. There's one good thing, I might be taking my juicing machine so any debates might not be alcohol fuelled. I think some of the chaps might prefer to drink carrot or beetroot juice as a pose to Stella.
