It makes me wonder if Martin was ever a Scout as Scouting encourages all those basic principles of being a good neighbour, even to a stranger.

We've found people on get togethers, rallies, CL's/CS's and the like to be very friendly and always offering swmbo a helping hand. She rarely accepts, mainly because she's got everything under control, and yes even the awning. It is however very much appreciated 🙂

I do recall however when I first became ill we were at a new CC site nearby for half term. We all went down with a flu type bug and so we decided to come home a day early. I took Jenny home with the children and then went back to take the awning down and pack up. The site was filling up nicely for the weekend and there were lots of people around. It took me 7 hours to pack up, I struggled around on a stick taking the awning down and had two falls in the process. Not one person offered a helping hand.

I've probably moaned before about my age group on sites being very insular. Heads down and off to the tap. No way do they want to stop for a chat. When you get onto 5 van sites and rallies the offers flood in. Nearly everyone is up for a chat and to pass the time of day. Life then passes by much more in a satisfactory way. Even just a good morning goes a long way.

I was a Cub and a Scout loved it, one of the first times I went of with the Scouts I had a small tin of beans and sausage, I was opening the tin and it fell in the stream next to our camp and just floated off down stream, everybody laughed and I was hungry 🙁 ,

I've noticed that Martin Roberts never wears a tie on his Homes Under the Hammer TV show.

Perhaps if he went on a tie management course, he wouldn't have missed the due flight 😛

Personally I think it is slack if you do not wear a tie to work if you are in a managerial position, just my opinion, even the great unwashed that sit in Westminster now have the option of not wearing a tie to work, standards are dropping 😉

I always wore a suit, shirt and tie for work, others did not and I always thought they gave to company a poor image. I've heard some people no longer wear a tie at Christmas any more.

How spooky. At dinner tonight the family were discussing our forthcoming cruise holiday ( partly as my 84yo Mum has recently lost her last sister and cruise partner) where we are going to enjoy the formal dinner nights. Mum even bought 3 new evening gowns. I remarked to my wife and daughter that over the years I go to work suited and booted, but when there was the company Xmas do it was a bright red Shell (other petrol is available) jumper and jeans and i used to sit on my MD's knee and we'd pour pints of beer over each others head. 😛 😛

Very interesting but I was expecting a lively discussion on the merits of gin v whisky v vodka etc.

Er ties what are those I don't even own one. Last time I wore one was 48 years ago at the wife's wedding. 😗 😗 I once went to a do with work for the annual long service awards [to receive my 20 year one] the door man at the posh hotel said sorry no entry without a tie. so I took out my shoe lace put it round my neck tied in a bow and said will that do. [he let me in] two steps inside the door it was back in the shoe.
