As I was giving the loo a good clean I thought I would do an experiment on the toilet paper, not any toilet paper but the one that is special for caravaning.

I made up a 2LT bottle of that blue chemical that degrades poo and gave it a shake, then, put 2 leaves of loo paper in the bottle, that was 9 hours ago and nothing.

I did follow the cat round the garden but with no luck.

Has there been any experiment on this stuff ?

I suppose as long as it do's the job.

you need to do a control test in just plain water to compare results, do keep us posted!

Experiment with the posh toilet paper from house results are after two days, it is still floating in the bottle.

So the outcome is, we are not wasting our money buying caravan paper.

We only use normal house hold paper, as long as it comes out of the spout what's the problem?

Ray, when I first brought my van I was told by the sales man I have to have the caravan paper.

And I believed him at the time, well no I did not believe a word he told me thats why I did my experiment.

I will keep buying the proper paper but use the sites loo.

Quote "I was told by the sales man I have to have the caravan paper."

That is what salesmen are all about,,,,,selling things(which more often than not you do not actually need)

Any of the normal type papers like Andrex are fine in cassettes as long as you rinse it well when you empty it.

There is no need to buy what is expensive, not very good, paper.

the problem with normal paper is that it can sink to the bottom of the waste tank on the caravan site and overtime buildup a sludge that can block the drains which can often very small dia.

It can also cause an issue with cess pit installations.

Hi,

In six years never used the correct "Caravan loo paper" and never had a problem. We avoid the 3 ply stuff but use normal good quality 2 ply paper. I always rinse the cassette and check its clear before re-dosing with chemical and water and reusing.

Being one who grew up in WW2 I was expecting this thread to be about the relative solubilities of say, 'The Times' and 'The Sun' and where to put the nail in the toilet room (from which to hang the string with the carefully torn squares of paper)

(PS I do realise The Sun was not published then - just making a comparison)

After 4 days the house hold paper is still floating about in the bottle.

The point of the experiment was, if we use the loo in the evening and empty the loo in the morning will the blue chemical have worked ?

I can't see the blue working overnight to the extent that any paper will degrade?

The only "bits" i have trouble removing from my cassette are the large brown bits, which have not had time to break down.

imo you are wasting blue if you empty the cassette every day?

We did try the "correct" loo paper when novices, but didn't find it very good, now over many years we have only used exactly the same paper as at home.

Being a post war baby, my squared paper on the loo nail, was the news of the world, always some "interesting" pictures of ladies!

hello, i used to drive a road tanker for a bit, hauling toxic waste, acids etc, one of our jobs was to empty cesspits. the vehicle was built by whale funny enough and it would suck anything from a cesspit, leaving it bone dry. it could implode a 45 gallon drum in seconds. ray.
