we are going on Friday. This is our favourite site. Faultless IMO. Order freshly baked bread from reception for the following morning - its still warm at breakfast when you collect it. Their little shop is lovely - try the local cider.

Showers are immaculate, nice dog walk with shower. We always have a hard standing pitch in the orchard area - its near to the shower block.

Full agreement with Chelsea - a beautiful site in a great part of the country.

Probably the best toilet block in the UK - although Pencelli Castle (Brecon) would be close.

We like the terraced grass pitches above and beyond the hard standing areas - it's a bit further to walk to reception or the ablutions - but you get a truly fantastic view across the valley to the hills beyond - and the pitches are twice the size of the hard standings.

The shop is OK, and if you eat supermarket bread - then the local bread is better - but not as good as it could be (but we make bread by hand in a traditional way - and smiled wryly at the Hairy Bakers TV programme).

As a pair of vegetarians since Uni, we quite like "alternative life styles" and enjoy towns like Brighton - but Glastonbury is very different...

Enjoy, Robert

Hi Cathryn

It's a lovely adult only site.

You can book fresh bread each day, scrumptious.

As the others say the facilities are excellent and plenty of tracks to walk the dogs.

Cheers

Alan

Can anyone tell me what the roads up to the park are like, as when I looked at it on Google Earth, there looked to be about a mile of very narrow lane.

Carl.
even though its a country road its quite wide in places - particularly around some of the corners. There are some narrower bits but in general its a quiet road, we have only every seen tractors on it. It does tend to get a bit mucky in places so usually end up covered in mud once on site!

Take it slow and easy, you'll be fine.

Well here I am, back after a lovely restful week at the Old Oaks - it's everything the posts above have said.

We pitched at an all-serviced pitch on the circle. The plots are very roomy and every caravan had it's privacy, which is nice but sometimes it's nice to sit and talk to the neighbours!

Even though there was a lot of rain around we were lucky only to get caught once - half way walking up the Tor! We clambered around 100 yards back down and sheltered under trees to wait for the shower to pass and continued on our way. Reaching the top, rather breathless as we're both not as fit as we should be, we were very surprised to find a herd of cows! I think they had been taking shelter in the tower! We could see another shower approaching so we didn't stay up there very long. The total walk from the site took around 90 minutes. Very enjoyable. On a nice sunny day the views would be fantastic, sunrise/sunset times would be beautiful.

It's lovely to be on a site that's situated away from main roads, very peaceful. The lane approaching the site is OK - according to one of the chaps on site, there's only two places where two caravans can't pass each other. If you have concerns about meeting oncoming caravans, avoid getting there early as all caravans should leave the site by 12 noon.

All the staff are very friendly and helpful - know alot about the local areas. The shop is well stocked, as well as freshly made bread there's a lovely home-made victoria sandwich cake every day which is sold by the slice. I was cheeky and asked if I could take a whole cake home with me! The children are tucking into it as I type!

My husband's a keen fisherman and was really pleased with his efforts at the pool - it's well stocked with carp, tench, perch and roach.

We ate out a few times - The Lion (turn left onto the main road, drive around 3 miles) was excellent - 10/10, couldn't fault it at all. Also another place for recommendation is the Geroge and Pilgrim in Glastonbury itself. Another excellent meal and good atmosphere in a very old building - it has quite a history.

So Andy and Kate I'm sure you'll have a great time - make sure you go to Wells on a Wednesday for their market, it's really good. Surprisingly Glastonbury market (Monday) isn't up to much.

Frome is a lovely town also.

Hopefully we'll go back for a weekend in October, otherwise definitely next spring - can't wait!
