Theft and lawless Britain?

Following on from the Car Theft thread, recently there has been a company advertising on the radio for fitting alarms and if the alarm is triggered or they are contacted, they will respond within a certain time period. Have we now got to the stage that to protect your property you need to employ the services of a security company? Reminds me a lot of South Africa where crime is rampart!

I don’t know if we have got to a rampant level of crime or not. What we do have is a meta narrative peddled by the media that we are at constant threat and something awful is going to happen any second. If it isn’t the weather, it is crime, or viruses or terrorists or doctors will fail to save you. The anxiety generators are out in force.

Without a current crisis, perpetually changing from one thing to another - there is no purpose for the media - and as if reporting on genuine crises isn't enough, AI is being used to create fake stories as well.

I don't think the current shop lifting spree is an AI narrative. I truly believe it is genuine and police are virtually powerless to stop it as they are severely undermanned.

I get cross when politicians from both sides think that the solution to overcrowded prisons is to release criminals early! The obvious solution is to build more prisons - and employ more police officers who can catch more criminals - and more courts so they can be sent to fill up these extra prisons.

A lot of the trouble Roger is getting tge CPS (Criminals Protection Service) to actually authorise tue Police to charge anyone with a criminal offence. If tue CPS think there is less than a 51% chance of a conviction they will discontinued any prosecution. My view is that they, the CPS, are setting themselves up as judge and jury, and thats what we have courts for!
Ask ANY copper and they will tell you I am 100% correct in what I have said, the CPS are not fit for purpose, look who was the head a few years ago!! Rochdale, grooming gangs!?

I genuinely believe the fear of crime is greater than being a victim, I personally don’t know anyone who has had their car stolen, and having an alarm fitted is well down my list of priorities.

BUT, we are weak on crime, weak, weak, weak. We need to get a grip.

What we NEED is to implement a total zero tolerance policy, if you drop litter, you get fined, if you ride your bike on the pavement or jump a red light, you get fined, if you steal a box of matches you get fined and so on. After a certain number of minor offence fines you get a couple of weekends in prison (so you can still work Monday to Friday and support yourself & family) It will take a couple of generations, but that regime will turn things around. But finding a politician who will agree to such a move will prove somewhat difficult.
To implement such a policy will also require vastly more police officers to enforce all, what some woukd say are, petty rules.

But would it get to the point, as reported in the media, where a person is threatened with prosecution for feeding wild birds, it used to be a treat to go down to a waterside, to feed ducks and swans,

Not sure about the 51% as recently the police submitted CCTV footage of a person shoplifting and the CPS declined to prosecute due to insufficient evidence????
