hi all

fitting the new pump for the thetford cassette c2 at weekend, should i just twist the matching wires together, wrap electricians insulation tape around them then cover that with duck tape to make sure then that no water can seep into the wiring?

thanks in advance :)

Absolutely NOT.

The wires need to be joined using straight connector crimps and the join, plus 1/2" either side waterproofed with heat shrink.

hi damien

thanks for the quick reply. i can grab a straight connector, only about 20p. with the heat shrink what is that?

all i was told a while ago was to snip the old one off, crimp the wires with the new one and tape it up securely :-s

Danny, the crimps and heat shrink can be got from Maplins.

Heat shrink tubing is a black tube which when heated with a hairdryer shrinks an forms a waterproof seal over the joint you will make.

Cut off the old pump near the pump, strip back the sleeving about 2 inches, have about the same on the new pump wire, cut a length of heatshrink so that it covers the sripped wires plus about an inch each end over the original wire sleeving.

Crimp each wire to its corresponding wire, slide the heatshrink over the join so that it is equally overlapping the original wires at each end, and shrink using a hairdryer.

Make sure that before connecting the wires together, the pump support is in place!!

I have not seen heatshrink in B&Q, but that does not mean it is not.

Halfords should have it, and the crimps, and the crimper.
