Thetford Toilet Flush Pump Broken AGAIN

HELP!!
Last year I had a fault on my Thetford SC200CW toilet flush pump. When I removed it I found that the bottom section had snapped off the tube. I took this as a wear and tear issue as the van gets a lot of use. Of course I couldnt buy the tube on its own (you can get the bottom plate but not the tube!). The design seems very flimsy to me as effectively all the pressure you create when you push the handle down goes onto three plastic clips which locate in a narrow slot on the bottom of the tube. One of these slots had snapped off the end of the tube.
Now six months later and exacly the same thing has happened again. The new pump costs around £27 and obviously I dont want to keep spending this every six months
So my questions are three fold
1 Am I the only one to have this problem
2 Is there any way round it
3 Is conversion to electic flush possible?

Thanks for the suggestion, however the leg is still intact (as it was on the last one) its the slot in the bottom of the tube that has broken so nowhere to attach the tie wrap to.
