Hi, can someone please let me know if you need to run a Thetford toilet of battery or can it also be run off mains power.

The toilet electric flush uses 12v from the leisure battery Joanne unless you want to convert it into an electric chair :0)
 
Your caravan may be equipped with a 12v power supply and battery charger, in which case the 12v appliances will draw power from the PSU, using the battery as a smoothing unit, and of course, if you are off hook up, the battery will supply your 12v needs.
