Tips for removing panels to locate a disappeared no plate wire

Hi!

Further to my recent post, I'm pretty certain I'm missing a number plate lamp wire which I guess has fallen down into the van.

I'm therefore considering trying to find the cable and as I've never attempted to take a caravan apart before thought I should get some advice before jumping in. I'm particularly interested in the how to do it and what I should do after (i.e. sealing for water tightness?).

I guess the answers may be a bit van specific (mine is a late 80's Sprite Muskateer) but any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated.

To be quite honest Andy, I'd not worry about the number plate light too much.

However, the wire will probably be routed inside the rear bunk close to the top of it and be connected to either the left or right tail light wire at the light fitting.

You can get from trailer part suppliers like towsure, indespension for instance, a "Led" battery powered number plate light that can be switched on indipendantly of the rest of the road lights. Leagally, you only need to illuminate the numberplate at night. Also, it will be bottom of the list for the boys in blue as far as roadworthyness is concerned.

I would try this - remove one of the rear lights after securing the wires - you don't want to lose those as well. With a stiffish piece of wire, push along the wall cavity towards the numberplate light. You may need to try several times, but who knows, you may get lucky and see the wire. If/when you do, connect wiring to your numberplate lamp, tie it to your 'fishing' wire and carefully pull it through the cavity. When you have your new wire, connect to the sidelight terminals of the road light.

I'll try a little fishing but if that fails, the led is a good solution.
