To Book or not to Book

So we are actually in a position to now go away this Bank holiday weekend, so I ring our first choice and they are fully booked, fair enough it is a bit late for this Thursday.
So I ring our second choice and they say .....No need to book just turn up, plenty of spaces!!!!

So my question is do/have you turned up on the off chance, my thoughts also go into overdrive and say why are there so many pitches available, is the site any good.
It's actually a site next to a pub. Take a peep
They have 30 EHU by the way.

Kev, it shows that it has 5 Hardstandings, and another 25 EHU, s, looked at Google maps to see the site. The write ups from people say the place is friendly, why not look around the area for cl/cs sites as a "just in case" there is also Woodovis park on the Other side of Tavistock, Nice pub near there as well.

Can i ask EH52ARH, what are the cl/cs abbreviations?

He's gone to bed... :lol:

cl = certified location
cs= certified site
Local authorities issue certificates which allow landowners to have caravans on their land, be it a large garden, a field behind a pub or perhaps ex-farmland.
These sites are usually certified for up to 5 caravans or motorhomes, (but in practice there are sometimes more).
These smaller and often quieter sites, some with limited facilities and others with the full range including ehu (electric hook up) are normally affiliated to one of the two main clubs.
The Caravan (& Motorhome) Club describe theirs as CLs
The Camping & Caravanning Club = CS

Hi Hutch, did think along those lines and looked up the one you suggested, Woodovois, and at £141.00 plus for three nights, I'll be staying home!!!!!!
I dont mind paying a bit over the odds due to bank holiday but that really is over the top, will check out others as back up if we decide to go there , cheers.

No problems Kerbdog, thats what the forum is all about, to help one another, have a good day 🙂

Sounds as if they've either forgotten it's a bank holiday or just can't be bothered with the booking system. Can you email them? Try and book that way or at the least a reply email saying no need to book just turn up. That way you can print it off and take it with you just incase.

Looks fine and dandy though.

You're a big lad now Kev, -- just do it! (by the way Kev this one is not far away from it if you don't like the look of the pub site?) http://www.lydfordsite.co.uk/home/ Or this one http://www.glebe-park.co.uk/touring.htm -- http://www.bundu.co.uk/index.html You'll get in at one of 'em!

For the bank holiday I would book rather than risk turning up and being beaten to the site. We used to tour by just going many years ago but it got more and more difficult to the point we will not do it now in high season or bank holidays.

Sorry about that Kev, too true, thats extortionate, Sites really rip us off at Bank Holidays. Nearly always stay at home at those time, but I am retired, 😛 😛

Hi Kerbdog, Parksey, answer your question for me, He is such a good chap. :cheer: When we first started about 10 plus years ago, we went to the bigger sites then found out about cl / cs sites, they don't always suit all folk. But horses for courses. For us they are normally closer to a pub where we can walkmthe dogs to. 😛

There are many good web sites to find the sort of site you would like. One of my favourites is
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk.
Happy touring.
Hutch.

Thanks for the info folks, we're in Northern Ireland so I'm not sure if there are cl/cs sites here. I think we've only one camping and caravan club affiliated site to my knowledge. We collect our van tomorrow but forgot about the bank holiday so can't get away until next week.

Ta for that Sir Gabs, as with Hutch the Lydford one looks good, but they say they are CC(M) affiliated, now as they are advertising tent pitches I guess non members would be able to visit?
Can ring and find out tomorrow.

And yes I am to try out my BIG LAD status and decided to just do it!

Kerbdog, keep posting about site in the Isle , same as a"Tad, " keep us informed. The sites seem exppensive, but at TIM has said wild Touring . But I would always need to be near to a watering hole. And that never far away. 😛

So things didnt turn out as planned 🙁

We couldnt get away today BUT we are off tomorrow :woohoo:

Thought I would ring them tonight to find out if they had a free pitch which they have, asked them what time we could arrive on site..............Anytime you want!!!!!!!!!!!
Then asked how much per night..........................................£11.50 with EHU .
It's either going to be a little gem or the Woosie pot WILL be used for all functions!!!!!!!!
