To cover or not?

I have to say that I followed this topic and I did not, and still do not see why the OP took umbridge at a particular post, if that was the case.
Nowhere was he or she called stupid, the programme referred to was very good and dispelled some urban myths and wrong "facts" that had become accepted.

If I had thought it necessary I would have stopped it , as many of you know I would.

I tend to think that people do not read all the post before latching on to one particular point or word which upsets them and they think it has become personal.
I never received any complaints about the topic whatsoever.

You have just summed it up this site belongs to Hezza and his magazine empire and not the long standing clique that seem to exist on here and rubbish new posters just for asking a question that might have been asked a million times before when Adam was a lad, in saying that the advise that is given for FREE and is first class, I have just had a reply from Woodentop with reference to a satellite issue, not only that when a particular technical question is asked you get Damien and the Prof giving professional advised for free, but I think it would be courteous of responders to a question not call people Stupid,

wrong on many counts I'm afraid. Damian's reply sums it up perfectly. for a start no one call anyone else stupid. lets get that one out of the way for starters. the inference [known only to the member who seems to have left] was because he was the one who started the thread. so any following comments must be directed at him.
but if he had stayed around long enough he would have known that the original question or questions often go down side roads to other destinations. very often going completely off topic. this is the very nature of forums. [just like this one] started out about caravan covers and now is about what someone may have misunderstood. it is a bit like a group talking in a pub. it will start with the quality of the beer but end up being about someone's last holiday.

the longer one is on the site the more one gets tuned in to the direction of the discussion. some find it easy and fit right in others take longer and may understand better after about 500 posts.

also there different types of member some join ask one question then disappear into the sunset while others sick around and become long standing contributors of the forum. many members fall into the middle area stick around while there is an interest and gradually drift away.

another point. is the assumption that these long standing members are some sort of clique that run the forum. nothing could be further from the truth. the administrators run the forum. the moderators police it. the longer one is around the more one would understand this in fact calling the long standing members a clique could be assumed to be an attack on those very members. the reason it is not is because they are long standing members and are not offended easily. unlike some new ones.
there is a group on the forum [called the woosies] some new members have referred to it as a inner club which is nonsense. if anyone wants to know what that is all about. click on the topic on page 1 and read all 500+ pages and 5000+ posts.
I would also add that advice/suggestions on the forum is given in good faith whether the information is used is up to the reader. but remember most of the longest serving members are OAP's experienced in the field. who will pick up the mantle when their no longer around. new members should dwell on that before throwing the teddy out of the cot.

in the past has cogently explained what the Woosies are. Colin has very accurately explained in his last post what the Woosies are.
The door is open to anyone.We are caravanners of all ages from all walks of life,
who share an interest in being happy and caravanning. We have all learnt a lot
over the years and still are!
Our long serving keeper of the records Sir WC will no doubt reissue the requirements to become a Woosie. Please. No more keyboard warriors.This is a fun site for all to swap notes and learn

Dusty, can I add as a long serving Woosie, that Woosiefests are and always have been open to others who wish to come along join in the merriment.

I am proud to be a member of the forum as well and feel an affinity to many on line. The support that I have received over the years from genuine people on this site has been amazing. There has never been any clique about it just like minded people helping each other out. In my case through some very very dark times.

Woosie Membership

If anyone wishes to become a member of the Woosies please tell us (on the Woosie Thread, so as not to annoy others who do not wish to read it) some of your silly stories or pet dislikes about getting your hands dirty caravanning. No need to be lavatorial. Examples are:

Anyone who is scared of silly things like spiders, etc
Anyone who finds normal everyday chores repulsive
Anyone with initials/name that we find suitable
Anyone who runs around after their better half which is unnecessary
Anyone who gives silly remarks to others on this forum
Those who won’t sleep in their awning
Those who waste electricity heating the awning at 2kw just to keep the dog warm
Those who want a Chinese take-away delivered to their caravan door
A hot water bottle in the caravan with Alde central heating
Don't like getting muddy
Complain to the Wardens about the weather
Driven off with the jockey wheel still down or the rear steadies not wound up
Unhitched the van and driven away thereby breaking the breakaway cable
Used the toilet for 1s and 2s but forgotten to add the chemicals

Dropped the Thetford filler cap down the disposal point hole

It's a shame whenever someone announces that they will no longer use this forum because of some perceived insult or jibe, even when there was never any intention to cause offence from anyone, as in this particular case.
There comes a point however when no matter what one does somebody will be 'offended' and when that point is reached it's best to move on and let the person who was upset because of a misunderstanding either reconsider or stay away if that's what they want to do.
If either Damian or myself jumped in to interfere every time a difference of opinion arose on the forum it would rapidly become all about the mods rather than the core subject that this forum is meant for.
If members take a break or decide to steer clear there's not much point in worrying about it, sad though it may be.

yeah I suppose. but that comes with endurance and being out in the rain so often. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
one could suggest that those of a more delicate nature actually read the whole posts contained within a thread. though instead of the first line. 6 words in the middle and the end.
perhaps it is an inability some have. who knows.
I once tried reading "les miserables" in the same fashion the book made no sense so I put it down after 10mins.
perhaps if they stopped doing the same there would be less misunderstandings.
one other point all the old members were new once if everyone had disappeared at the first obstacle the forum would have died years ago. time to put this storm in a tea cup to bed. it's summer the sun is shining. and there more things to do than worry about a forum hiccup.
