Well it will be interesting to see if we get PM facility but I won't hold my breath.

It all boils down to commonsense. I've used the net thousands of times in searches for products, hundreds of times buying online and also selling through e-Bay yet I've never been fiddled,
I think that applies to almost everyone, you have a much greater chance of having a credit card cloned in a garage or restaurant (where it happened to me) than on the internet.
The point I was trying to make is that Google, Facebook, et al are building up vast databanks of personal information of their users, in the same way as Tesco store your shopping habits when you use a clubcard, it my well be benign but I believe in the saying 'if it's good for big business or government, it's not normally good for the individual'.
hardly any spam because most get stopped by my ISP.
The problem with spam filters is that they are either loose enough to let spam through, or so tight they stop genunie mail, Sadie was right in that one of the best methods is to use OutLook & apply filters.
Also while online IP checkers aren't always reliable, your ISP knows exactly who has which IP address at any given time & with a court order, or not in the case of Sky, will hand the user details over to various commercial organisations.

I wasn't insinuating any particular posts or poster was paranoia Nick, just an observation in general. For example the news pages in Computeractive are full of the latest scams, viruses, trojans, privacy matters etc. which is enough to make any reader paranoid. The comment you made above I agree with except I don't think it is applicable in law yet. BT and TalkTalk are appealing I believe but even if they lose it won't bother me, only those who download copywrite material need to worry.
They jailed the two owners of Piratebay but I read the site is still working. A bit like Wikileaks I suppose

It is, the Digital Economy Act was given Royal Assent on the 21st April 2010

TalkTalk have said they will not comply & BT blow hot & cold, in fact they were done for sending 500 user name & addresses to ACS Law in an unencrypted file not long ago.
but even if they lose it won't bother me, only those who download copywrite material need to worry.
Google Martin Niemöller, me I'm paranoid

No! Don't explain, please. We've had quite enough 'explanations' of off-topic subjects in this thread, thanks.

(Don't encourage them, Steve

It's probably the excuse Haymarket will use if they ever reply to you.

I can hear your hubby shouting to see if his tea is ready Sooze. Now run along like a good girl. Be a loving wife and do his bidding as all loving wives should

What's that got to do with the price of eggs? Or, more to the point, a PM facility on this forum?

(Oh, and my hubby never shouts......doesn't need to, his every need is met. And who said I was a good girl?

It's said to be bad luck to refuse so I don't mind if I do

Thanks Steve, I've just made a batch, all nice and hot and fresh straight from the oven.

Believe that and you'll believe anything, but the thought is there.

Amazing!
This is now the 116th post which must be a good score even by chat room standards. I;ve been away last 6 days and thought this thread would have died off with at least a promise from Haymarket of a PM system.

Welcome back Alan. And don't be silly!!! Although I have to say I think the lack of a response from Haymarket gets more disgraceful by the minute.

Now then Sue I've wasted 15 minutes catching up on this thread alone, longer than any chat room services I've had the stamina for.,
SWMBO says I don't last long these days. LOL.

But they might be able to trace you through your isp etc Steve (sorry, haven't read all the posts but isn't that what the problem is or something?).

I'm happy to say that the Haymarket technical staff have been good enough to answer my email and that a PM facility is under discussion. It could be on the list of next years improvements with the proviso that such an addition did not affect the functionality of the website and forum. Any such system would have to be tested thoroughly and any legal issues arising from the use of such a system would need to be explored. The development of the forum is an ongoing commitment for Haymarket and whatever is decided the website and forum will never stagnate as happened in the past.
To sum it up - they haven't said 'No'
