Can anyone tell me how to cancel a route once selected using the Tomtom 910,

Ive just changed my sat nav, on my old unit there was a cancel route option.

Very handy when you alter your route, its stops trying to re-direct.

Our Tom Tom 910 was certain we were swimming a river last year - actually we were crossing it about 30 yards upstream on a bridge that had been there since WW11

For advance planning do this

start machine main menu --> page 2 --> advance planning

On next page press recent destination then on that page ,you have at top - depart from list of recent destinations at foot , find , delete , back

press delete and you will get a red warning saying Please confirm - delete ALL recent destinations so you will in fact lose everything

Probably not what you wanted to hear

for on the spot cancellations my husband suggests just set another route - since this is 11.40 pm and the TomTom is in the house - he's not going outside to try and wake it up and get a signal and then do this and check it for you .

I got one of them for a present at christmas it now resides in a box in the garage

first time out it sent me on a 5 miles detour just to get me back on the motorway the very place I did not want to be in the rush hour and it sent me down a local street full of parked cars because it doesn't know there are cars parked there get my drift

what if I had been towing the van and wanted a short cut???

the wife calls it maureen (after a neibour who never stops talking) myself I called it christine because it had a mind of it's own

it doesn't answer your question sorry

I get a route from the rac route planner and print it before I set off at least this won't alter 10 miles up the road

With respect Colin, you should learn how to use it !

You can alter the setting to avoid such things as you describe and if you know better you use the route that suits you and let the unit re route. If you set a satnav to fastest route it will take you on roads with the highest speed limit not the shortest or quickest route.

If you take a known local route and then let it re route you back a silly way it's your own fault not the machines.

No sorry - Katy can't do what you want - the only suggestion himself can make is to tell her to make the diversion as small as possible.

Hi Chris,

Cancelling the route with TomTom - Easy

When shipped, the option for "Use simple menus" is set, this doesn't display the "Clear Route" option and you need to enable "Use full menus"

Select the Main Menu - Change Preferences - and then find the simple / full menu option.

After you've clicked Full Menus, "Clear Route" is on page 3 of the main menu - and once you've read the manual you see how to move useful options around to simplify operation for you.

or trying to re calibrate the sat nav while on the move

you may very well be right however I dont trust it, wont use it and it's staying in its box and the only reason its not on e-bay is because it was a present

I dont have tomtom but most satnav devices have a choice of routing options (fastest,shortest,motorcycle,LORRY) ect, I always use the lorry option when towing,it save being sent on a route which you describe
