Went there over the bank holiday 29/08 till 31/08

What a hole!

A large campsite with only 6 showers for the men and 6 for the ladies 2 in each of which didn't work, honestly the toilets and showers were dirty and old and need to be ripped out

Shower tokens only available from the shop if you arrive after 6pm you stay smelly

Shop sell great tat - welsh dolls - kites - and bare essentials (loo rolls)

Toilets a disgrace - no locks on the door and a policy of no loo roll

Touring area like a shanty town REALLY close together with the road being really deeply rutted - difficult if you don't have a 4x4

Advert says 5mins from beach - more like a min of 15 mins

I've never moaned before but this site charges £20.00 a night and delivers a £5-£10 a night level of accomodation

Still the beach is great as is the sea water quality

The local pub The Smugglers is a nice pub but spoilt by the rubbish overpriced food (and I mean rubbish). Unfortunatly didn't get the chance to visit the other local (The ship)

If you are going to have an ice cream use the cafe a t the end and get Joes Icecream - it's the best

Hi Dave - sorry to hear that you had a bad experience in south Wales. There are many good sites, both club and commercial, in this area. If you are a member of the CC there is a fabulous site at Pembrey just a little further west, Junction 47 off M4. Very clean well kept site with the benefits of Pembrey Country Park and beach right on its door step, not 15mins. away. Regarding Joe's Ice Cream it is noted for its excellence in the Swansea area - try Joe's Ice Cream Palour in St. Helen's Road Swansea - also very nice Horlicks.

Don't stay away from south Wales - give it another go but I would suggest that for a better quality of site you must go west of Swansea, east of Swansea is very industrialised.

Don't get me wrong I had a great time on the Gower and I will be back (but not staying at New park campsite would you believe!).

Bit confused on you East v West statement as New Park is at Port Onion (bristolian pronunciation) which is pretty far west on the gower

See "what a crap site" you weren't alone on finding the pit's of parks. We use Gower farm at Llandewie it's about two miles from Port Eynon and the ship is a better pub. The chippy at Eynon used to be reasonable.

Gower farm is basic but the toilet block works and is kept clean. The Texaco garage half a mile away is a good supply soarce.

The Gower is a beautiful area and I hope you do return to see more.

Just come back from a fortnight in Gower. Wonderful CL with views of Oxwich Bay. Ate out 11 nights out of 14 at a variety of pubs/inns around the area. Fantastic time, fantastic beaches, great area. Little disappointed in the cycling, but other than that brilliant. Site was Perriswood Farm, Nicholaston in the CC book.

I beg your pardon - by saying west of Swansea I would not consider the Gower for staying, my first consideration for overnight staying would be Pembrey CC site. Gower is a great place for day tripping but not for staying. I will excuse your Bristolian accent (have two nephews living in Bristol) but you should have typed PORT EYNON. There is a nice privat site right on the coast in Port Eynon which is OK if the weather is good. The facilities on the site are basic but clean, however the site is quite expensive for what is on offer.

Dave, What was the name of your site? As i recall there are 2 sites in Port Eynon. One down almost at sea level and one high up above the village. We stayed at the one higher up and the vans were really packed in. Not good at all. The Ship inn in the village seemed ok though. Best Wishes, George T.

We stayed at this site 25 years ago and it was ok then. We were the only van in the field (just behind the chalets I think). There was a great view and I spent about an hour with a jack and blocks of wood getting the van perfectly level and lined up to make the most of it. When I was finally satisfied we went out to the shop and when we returned, yes you guessed it, a second van had arrived and, with the whole field to choose from, had parked right in front of us!
