Hi Lance,

There are many great sites in North and South of Ireland which are great for kids. Most sites need to be booked well in advance during peak season. When do you plan to travel? Have you decided on a route? Sites in the south tend to be a bit more expensive than in the north as they charge for the site and then the number of occupants.

The Guinness factory is still open in Dublin you can also take a guided bus tour of the city. There are many places to visit and things to see in the south depending on your route and what interests you.

In the north there are many sites to visit-: Giants Causway, Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge, Bushmills Distillery and Rathlin Island. One site my son loves to go to is Carnfunnock in Larne. They have loads of activities on site for all the family. Although this site does tend to be booked up early the pitches are a good size and it is well maintained.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info just ask

Lovely site at Bushmills, Ballyness Caravan Park. Google it as has website but you would need to book . Another lovely site is Rushin House Caravan Park at Belcoo in Co Fermanagh. Small but again you would need to book. All sites in Ireland are laid back and do not have a lot of activities as most people want to tour around Ireland.

Any other questions please post

Hi Lance if you are starting in the South may I suggest this site for doing Dublin

http://www.camacvalley.com/
We stayed there 2 years ago and it is a very well presented site with buses actually having a stop on the park. That is the open top type for Dublin as well as service buses.

Over in Gallway I have stayed at this site which is right on the beach and although there are shops nearby you do have to jump in the car to get into the city centre.

Ballyloughane Caravan and Camping Park

Ballyloughane Beach, Renmore Galway

For up North I can recommend this site

where all pitches are fully serviced and the place is maintaned to a high standard.

I am more familiar with sites in Northern Ireland. Some of those already mentioned are great (Belcoo and Ballyness) but sadly the standard of the toilet/shower facilities in Ireland on the average site falls far below the standards of decent sites in GB. Also worth noting that while the road network in N.Ireland is excellent (same standard as the rest of the UK only less congestion), other than the recently completed arterial routes, the roads in the Republic of Ireland are diabolical, especially for towing a caravan. Think pot holes that would remind you of a WW 1 battlefield, road signs that are very small and in two languages etc. In general off the new (EU ie read UK funded) main routes the ROI roads are equivalent to pre-war Britains, only less well maintained. Personally while there is much natural beauty in the ROI, it is not a place I recommend for any sort of holiday that envolves motoring (let alone towing a caravan).

lance,

I know the reply is a bit late, however I live in Northern Ireland. Their is a C&CC site just outside Downpatrick called Delamont, it's fantastic right on Strangford Lough loads for the kids to do as it's next to the country park with a massive play park, miniture railway and short/long walks which can be done on bike as well. As it's no too far from the border it would be an ideal stop on the way up to the north coast, the showers are spot on as well. Up at the nortyh coast there are some lovely sites. Try Bush caravan park it's got an on site park, not many showers but are kept spotless. Also try Ballymcrae caravan site, it's small(about 45 pitches) very friendly a bit of a play area for the kids, the showers are a bit dated but kept clean. Its also a five minute drive to the beach from there. But also try the other ones recommended they are very good.
