Touring with a cat

Not since she tried to leg it at Invercauld. Cats are so clean and non smelly you can have them in your van, without that wet musky smell associated with Dogs.

Lots of people are successful at taking their cat with them.

Another thing it's great to see the dogs going bananas when they see the cat in the window.Dogs are that stupid all they can do is howl at the window.

A dog is designed to turn a ton of food into a ton of S***

and they are first rate at it.

Hi Scoot

We were at Grin Low CC site in the Peak District last month and there was a couple there with 3 (yes, 3!!) cats. They all seemed to live happily in the van during the day. The owners took them out on long leads for walks round the site morning and evening.

Mind you I did see a motorhome at Englethwaite Hall and the owner was using the garage at the back of the motorhome as a kennel. Now that's what I call devotion to your animals a

We've seen several people with cats, including in France. Most times they've been on leads outside of the van, but once we saw a 'free range' cat, who wandered about the site and always went back to the right van - amazing. Mine would be off.......

Cats do not smell? you must be joking they pee & S--t in other peoples Gardens so how would you know

Just returned from a blissfull week at Bunree CC site near Fort William. The couple down from us had two cats with harnesses and leads fitted. every time we passed they were sitting out in the sun making full use of their owners lafuma loungers. did make us laugh, but thought it was great to see some cats, it certainly must have been interesting everytime a dog and owner walked past them.

I do like the idea of cats in harness's. Maybe the owners could use them at home to stop them from going and piddlin' and dumpin' in everyone elses garden. I'm not surprised the owners don't believe they stink, they need to come and stick their snouts by my front door. Most have catflaps so their cats can go and dump in the middle of the night.

One of these day's, when I find out whose cat keeps dumpin' & peein' on my garden I'm going to put my dog on a lead, go up their garden path and get my dog to dump on their doorstep. Theres no difference is there? What's good for the goose ....

Hehheh! can you just imagine the cat owner and how irate they would be, not even stopping to think how anti social their moggy is to other neighbours :O)

Hi there, we have just returned from springwillows near scarborough and there were a couple there matching that description 3 cats in the caravan during the day and walked on long leads in the afternoon, i dont know what to think, i felt sorry for the cats a little.

Our cat, Juba, which means "beer" in Shona is quite happy and at home in the caravan. When I call she comes. She has her own litter tray which she uses and does not go to other pitches etc. She likes to lie on the grass near the caravan especially if the sun is shining.

She has never been on a lead and never will be on a lead as I have never seen any signs on any caravan park that your cat must always be on a lead! There may be exceptions if it is a big pussy.

LB. Better still would you like to borrow my dog, when hunter or max does the buisness, it takes a while.

When we stayed at woodland springs, it did have a sign asking people to keep animals(Not dogs) on a lead and under control.

Earlier this year we were on a CC site and my little terrier just wandered up to a cat (walking on a lead) sniffed and walked off. First time ever she didn't 'chase'!

I have been told before that cats are territorial animals and don't take well to being relocated, or worse still, cats that are already there, don't take well to new ones arriving in their patch, I know the cats around my house seem spend a lot of time staring each other down and asserting their 'authority'.

I have never seen any in this country but while touring France in 2006 saw 1 on a lead on a site just outside Paris.

However you wouldn't catch me at it, give me a dog anyday

You've got to think LB that the Aristico's have sh@t on people for hundreds of years, the cats are just giving you a taste of what many ordinary folk have had to contend with

Yes, we do! In the early days, (2000 when she was about 4-6 years of age) she wore a harness and was never allowed out without a lead. However, those days are long gone, she doesn't wander far, uses her tray unless there are molehills or loose soil available. She is now about 12-14, only has three legs, lost back leg through cancer, and is still fairly active. Likes watching birds and hunting hedges. Site selection first and foremost - a hedge, and if possible some soil. We do, of course, always check she hasn't left a large message anywhere. Secondly, no dogs or children near by - she HATES them.

She is good fun, has made lots of friends in the Camping & Carvanning Folk Group section, puts up with band practice in the awning - hates concertinas!

Enjoy taking yours with you, always keep an eye on yours, when we go out she is always shut inside the van, someone close by will have a key - just in case.

This is more proof I think, that a caravanning with pets section would be a good idea.
Hi LP. It is a good idea hubby and I have seen, budgerias, parrots, tortoises, dogs of all shapes and sizes some cats. We were only a CSMA rally some years where there 4 cats and only 2 dogs.

The C &CC have interest sections, why not the Forum.

One further point - travelling - our cat always travels in a wire cage, which has plenty of room to move around in an spread out. It sits on the back seat and bungied in place.

A separate pets section would be brilliant! Just so that I can avoid the subjects bought up about dogs, cats, parrots and all other sort of boring animal topics....

Last year we saw a cat on a long lead which strolled by without any concern for our dog!!! The dog took little notice either as I think she thought it was yet another dog. I have even seen ferrets on site being walked on leads!

I forgot to mention, don't forget to take the litter tray and litter and all the necessary medication, if necessary). We also take enough cat food, especially the biscuits.
