Tow car which is best

I am looking to change my car for a sharan/galaxy/alhambra diesel and am wondering is anyone towing or towed with one.My van is a Hobby 1500kg laden i have a shogun but am looking for better fuel economy ,especially when un-hitched.There is quit a few diesel engines 90/110/130 which is the best for towing.I am not looking at new probably around a 2000 model? Help

Go for the 130 but dont touch an auto (they can break expensively)_

Forgot to mention The seat 130 is probably best, our Shaz was an excellent towcar and family car. Expect 40mpg mixed driving and 50+ mpg at steady 60, 25 - 30 mpg towing

If you are gonna get a galaxy, go for a mark 2 (post 2000) as mark 1`s max tow weight is 1500kg. 130bhp is gonna be the best option, but as Gary stated, forget the auto box
