A question ref the above...

The Mazda CX-7 got 3x4 stars and 1x2 stars giving an overall of 4 stars - the Volvo XC60 got the same 3x4 stars but a better 1x3 stars giving an overall of 4 stars.

The Mazda then won the class - on a smaller tally - how does this work?

I don't own or want to own either of these - just curious!

Mazda offered the journalist a free week on the Canary Islands and Volvo only invited him to a three course dinner :)

Hi Neal,

My thought was that for a newcomer to caravanning, this test should also offer a comparison with past winners, as it could appear that these are the only suitable towing cars available.

Best regards,

George

Its only new models released in the last year that are tested although the LR seems to tested every year.

Dear All,

Just to clear some things - Previous year class winners get invited back to defend their title each year, which is why Disco 3 got tested in 2008 and 2009. It didn't win in 2009 so would not have been invited back, but the new Disco 4 was eligible for testing as it was new.

And the categories are not given even weighting - stability is considered more important than practicality for example, so a car scoring highly for having a big boot will not necessarily beat a more stable, safer towcar with a small boot.

Hope that helps

Couple of questions Nigel?

Is it new models or facelifted models that are tested?

If so why was the Audi Q7 tested and why wasnt the BMW X6 tested?
