So far we have found

Rover 75!

on and then you get to the 4x4's which there's seems a good choice, but what about ordinary towcars? Anyone own a normal car / estate that has high nose weight capability?

Homer...who has less hair now than the real owner as most of it has been teared out!

Hi Homer

Like you I am new to all this but the only one I found was the Freelander and 4x4's. I have a similar dilemna but in reverse. We are looking at buying an MPV first then the caravan only because the preferance on towing vehicle has a higher priority than the caravan.

But I am torn between the new shape Megane Scenic and the Alhambra 1.9 but unless you go for the 130bhp version it is pretty gutless.

But to get back to your question there will only be the thirsty 4x4's which I personly refuse to buy (and lets face it the only time some of them go of road is when the mums park the half on the pavement outside the school) which only leaves the MPV.

One that we did look at was the Kia Sedona but it is butt ugly and not that impressive in kit.

Good luck with your search.

You do seem to like upsetting people on this forum don't you?

I sincerely hope that you never need your unit with its nice new MPV towing off of a muddy/wet pitch as we Mums in old gas guzzling 4x4's apparently can't manage that if it's not outside the school or Sainsburys carpark, so I will use my towchains to tow out other units who aren't so patronising. At last years' Nottingham Goose Fair Rally they were very grateful.

Maybe you should think twice before passing judgement and typing and you might get friendlier responses.

Homer,

It is my understanding that the Alko hitch is only rated upto 100kgs even if the vehicle can take more.

You will be hard pushed to beat the Rover 75 for normal saloon cars or people carriers.

I have a RAV4 and it is only 80 kilos.
