Towing laws

I am about to set off to Devon for 10 days with my family towing the caravan as it is a good drive from stockport I was going to let my wife do some of the driving but after talking to a nieghbour I was told that as she had only passed her test in 99 she had to take a test to tow because she passed after jan 1 97 but I am ok because I passed in 86 is this true

Hello Anthony

It is true that differentlaw applies to you and your wife simply beceause of the dates you both passed your driving test.

The main difference is to do with how heavy the outfit weighs. Check out the details on this site:

http://www.ntta.co.uk/law/law/driving_licences.htm
which explains the essential points. Make sure you have your licences available to check.

Unless you have a very heavy outfit you are probably ok.

as long as the caravan mptlm is not greater than the kerbweight of the car,and the whole outfit does not exceed 3500 kgs shes ok
