They do not have wipers fitted but some are heated(you pays your money etc).

In use the forward motion of the vehicle leaves the camera in an area of dry-ish air.My friend has his mounted in the no plate recess so that gives some protection Mine has a cowl over the top.

My camera has 14LED so in murky conditions you can still see that something is there .You don't need HD quality.

Lets face it in very heavy rain its a job to see forward when overtaking lorries with lots of spray.

I follow your point about width of vehicle but are there many that can see down the sides of the new breed of caravan at 7ft6in wide without extended mirrors ?

Towing with the Sorento with the large mirrors I still like the security of towing mirrors especially on the drivers side. The towing mirrors give a better view of the road on the motorway especially when pulling out to overtake.

You would need very long mirrors to see behind the rear corners

Many modern caravans have no rear window at all and the only way to the see behind is via a CCTV camera

I can vouch for the effectivenes of a "good" camera
i did not mean directly behind the caravan, but a good view of the traffic either side when been overtaking or overtaking yourself.some or most 4x4 mirrors have a very limited view????

Hi Klarky

What do you tow your Bessacarr with, just out of curiosity.

I am comfortable with your drawing. In That I can see the car in the outside lane, and the one slightly behind me ( especialy if they indicated and started to pull out.

I am not trying to be smart, I take Safe Caravanning very very seriously. It's just that on the LC the mirrors as they are need closing in when I meet some one coming towards me ( White Van Man ) who is very near the centre white line.

It's probably safer for me to continue as I am otherwise I fear I will be driving with a nearside only mirror. I am also comfortable with the Law that I can see down both sides of the van with my mirrors. I would think this is because of both Motor and Push Bike Riders !!!!

regards

Val & Frank

It also illustrates my point very well that you can not see the area behind the caravan via the external side mirror.

That area can only be seen via a see through rear window or CCTV camera.
