towing weight

I don't know of any Astra with a kerbweight as high as 1500kg. According to published data, most models are between about 1200 and 1350kg although actual figures could be slightly higher. Either the handbook has a misprint or you are confusing kerbweight with towing weight.

Vauxhall's website quotes the kerbweight for a 2008 Astra SRi 1.9 CDTi (150PS) 5 door as 1346kg - a 2006 is the same model "Astra-H" (mk5) so won't be very different.

The 2008 Astra SRI 1.9CDTi (150PS) estate is 1403kg but has a towing limit of 1400kg.

TOWING WEIGHT

HI THE KERB WEIGHT FOR MY 2006 ASTRA 1.9 CDTI 150 BHP CAR IS 1346

WE HAVE A COACHMAN 520/4 CARAVAN , MTPLM 1400 AND THEE MIRO IS 1130 THE VAN IS 2001 MODEL , IS THIS VAN OK TO TOW?.

Hi Andrew,

My sources suggest that the Astra 1.9 only has a maximum tow capacity of 1300Kg

Based on the figures you have supplied, Your Astra can tow the Coachman, BUT, you will not be able to load the caravan to its full capacity, as that will exceed the cars rated towing weight.

You will have about 180Kg of available payload, which must include your battery, gas bottles, all you personal items.

You must not exceed the cars rated towing weight. It all seems a little boarder line. Also if this is your first caravan towing experience, it is better to aim at 85% caravan to car weight.

1500kg is Vauxhall's towing limit for the Astra 1.9CDTi (150) in 3/5 door hatch - or 1400kg for the estate.

i agree it all seams a little barderline , if you are 100% sure of you weights its ok but if it were me i'd want a greater margin.

What i'd do is remove all your personal effects from the caravan drain any water out, remember the loo flush tank, and take it to a weigh bridge. find its weight then weigh everything you put on board it so you KNOW its weight as you are towing it.
