Towing with a citroen c5 2ltr diesel

Be aware on Citroan, VW, and ford Diesels now fitted with fluid tank Filters.

On a 2.2HDI Citroen C5 every 50000 miles the filter needs changing and the fluid tank refilling. Citroen dealer charges

I have had a Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi VTR and towed with no problems for the last couple of years although I have just replaced it with another Citroen. I remember reading about the filter replacement on this forum some time ago but could not find any mention of it in my handbook so I suspect it may only apply to pre 2005 models. Anyway, for the money I don't think you will find anything better as a towcar, great stability, and self levelling which I found a big plus.

I have a 2003 2.2 C5 saloon & yes it does have a"particulate filter"(fluid tank filter ) & yes it does have to be renewed @ around 50,000 & costs are about

I had a 2002 C5 Estate 2.0 which towed my 1259 mtpl without a problem with good fuel use 32 towing 40-48 solo. Only changed it due to some electric problems and couldn't trust it once the warranty had run out. Also residual depreciation was high so get one as cheap as possible with the though of keeping it for more than 3 yrs. It would have worked out less costly if I had leased one over that period.

I've a 58 plate C5 tourer 2.0VTR Diesel I tow a Swift Charisma 620 2up and it tows well enough holding 6th gear on all but steeper gradiants but change down before the engine tells you or drop 2 gears.Averages @24mpg.

Dear All,

In case it helps, the March issue of Practical Caravan has a guide to buying Citroen C5, up to 2008 models.

Hope this helps. The issue appears next week.
