hello i am another newbe looking for help i have a 1800 cc picasso and a elddis wisp caravan (maw 950 kg ) the caravan is in normandy and would like to take it to the south of france next summer my concern is the long slow hills should i try it ??? or change my car for something with a bit more power. ??? any advice you can give please
 
Hi john, according to whattowcar.com the 1.8 xsara piccaso towing an Elddis Avanti @ 875Kg miro(mass in running order) & 1350KG mtplm(maximum technical would be acceptable. with a MAW(maximum allowable weight) of only 950KG it would be even better.I assume you are aware that the MAW of 950 KG includes battery, gas bottles ,& all of your other items carried in the caravan regards Tony
 
Hi tony thank you for your reply no i wasnt aware what MAW950kg is or what CAP 170kg is i just quoted this from the paper work that came with the caravan

I have towed the caravan a few times now. But going from calais to normandy ( where it is now in storage )seemed a long drawn out journey Since that trip i have spoken to a few people and someone said how is your driving are you using the right gears and changing at the right time well on my last trip i tried this out and things did improve.

What i also wasnt aware of was the petrol consumption while towing us newbes have alot to learn regards john
