Thanks all
don't think its going to be the shock to the system that I first thought!
You could put your outfit details into Towcar.info. I’ve found it gives a pretty good assessment, particularly when I went to a
2 litre non turbo petrol Subaru. Good on two diesels too.

This was my first Volvo tow car, a 1997 940 LPT, 2.3 petrol turbo, 135bhp, 230Nm (169 ft/lbs) torque and 5 speed manual. I got it at 6 months old (I was 27, my mates thought I was mad!), it had a 1600kg towing limit and towed a 1300kgs caravan and a heavily laden car transporter (not at the same time......) all over the country with ease.Volvo-940.jpg

My first was a 245 GLE auto estate, and I got all the cow and sharp needle jokes going. 😂

I towed with petrol vehicles for many, many years and always decried diesels. The best of which was a Ford Zodiac with a gorgeous straight 6 motor.
Since switching across to 1 of those horrible, dirty, polluting diesel vehicles there's no way I'd go back to towing with petrol.

I'm hardly surprised that a modern diesel outshines a 1960's petrol vehicle. Not a fair comparison. But most smaller displacement modern petrols with a Turbo would also probably out perform a 1960's vehicle.

Just done that, don't know why I didn't before.
According to them the car is a perfect match to our caravan in every way and weight wise is even better than our Seat.
So thats it, going to order one!!
