Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone has had the problem of their Toyota Avensis when hitched to the caravan the rear of the car gets pearisly close to the raod, even with the nose weight being correct. My car is the diesel 115 b.h.p. version year 06, towing a 07 Bailey Pageant Bertagne series 6. the outfit seems to pull well and seemns stable. just the rear end sag, had thought of m.a.d suspension for the rear. any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Sean.

Hi Sean.

Before fitting any spring assisters, double check you nose load, and your pay load in the cars boot. You will need to get the cars permitted pay loading figures (usually in the owners handbook or check with your dealer) You should include the nose load of the caravan as part of the pay load of the car.

I understand that the coupling ball is 50 mm diameter and when measured from ground to ball centre should be between 350 and 420 mm (vehicle fully laden -) in accordance with BS AU 113c or ISO 1103

Sean,

I seem to remember reading a review of the Avensis recently and it was critisized for having a very low max tow weight, 1300 kg if I remember correctly. Are you sure your combination is legal? It may be the low ride is due to it being very much overloaded! Or is my failing memory at fault again.

Thanks for the reply, yes the combination is running it close to the maximum permissible for the car to tow 1300kg. But i never load the caravan to the maximum. Will keep a close eye on the nose weight and the recommendations of height mentioned. Had been pondering with maybe changing to a people carrier, Ford, Seat, Anybody tow with one they can recommend. Thanks again for all reply's
