Truma Motormover

When I use my Truma caravan mover I need to hold the remote control not more than about 5 feet away from the location of the control box in the caravan otherwise the unit stops and the control box has to reset itself. This is really annoying as I need to keep a check on both sides of the caravan as I get it out of a quite narrow drive and onto the road , trying to miss the lamp post whilst I do it. The unit typically re-sets itself 10 or a dozen times in a 'journey' of 30 feet !
I mentioned it to the servicing company who fitted it in the first place and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I have replaced the batteries in the remote, on more than one occasion, and I know that the caravan battery is in good, fully charged condition.
Any comments would be appreciated.

What type of aerial is used for the signal ?
Could it be extended ?
On my powrtouch the wire just dangles from a hole under the van for about a foot.....

hi, so does the truma Sprocket, I have mine pointing away from any electrical equipment but it is inside the van,
and yes it does cut out when going round the other side of the van while looking but it's done that since day one I just put up with it, it is bettter it stops than rattling something on the blind side.

Totally agree

mine does not cut out maybe because the aerial is nearly central in the van where it goes through the floor

but I don't keep it going unless I can see what is happening........

The control unit is under the front, off side, bed locker, about 30" from the front of the 'van. The aerial sticks up from the unit and is about 6" long. I'd wondered myself whether extending the aerial would help.
Just to clarify one point, I don't keep the van moving when I check down the blind side, it's just the fact that the unit switches itself off if I move more than 5 feet away and then it takes a few seconds to re-boot. Frequently it shuts down when I am still less than 5 feet away from the control box. Very frustrating.

hi John,
yes it is very frustrating at times, but as I said mines done it from day one so I dont think there is anything wrong with your unit.
Sprocket's idea of putting the ariel through the floor seems like a good one, might try this myself.

I can't see how you can. I also have a Carver mover and the ariel leans slightly from the top of the control box. It's only about 5" long and it works fine.

hi John must be a different control box to mine because the ariel is a floppy brown wire about 6in long and just lays on the floor,
don't think I could get it to stand up even if I soaked it in viagra ? however drilling a small 1/8" hole near the control box I reckon it would hang down underside of the floor about 4in and may improve the signal a bit.

Further to my original post, when I had my caravan serviced last year the Approved Workshop (who fitted the unit in the first place) said there was nothing with it when they checked it, implying that 'that is how they are'. I have just had the caravan serviced this year by a different company, (a Mobile Approved Workshop) who tried a new control box which he happened to have in his van at the time. The difference is fantastic ! I can now stand at least 30 or 40 feet away with complete control and without the unit continually cutting out and then rebooting itself. So much for the workshop last year !
