It seems some official channels will disagree about BBC news items and documentaries being balanced as we have seen recently. The former overseas news was very unbalanced and blatant lies were being told to be world.
I watched the programme on Gaza after which BBC had to make an apology because the lead teenage narrator was related to a Hamas official. But putting that issue to one side the actual content correlated very closely with what other news outlets were reporting about the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

All the news channels give the impression all buildings in Gaza have been razed to the ground, but this is not correct which is why I take most news with a pinch of salt. Sadly they are there to sensationalise and sell by whatever means. One needs to read between the lines and do this with several news outlets to get a vague idea of what is actually happening.

I did say it correlated with what other news outlets were reporting. I guess the satellite photos shouldn’t be trusted either. Where then does one arrive at an informed understanding?

Whose fault is it if independent journalists and news crews aren't allowed into Gaza? There are regular updates to satellite images so any news programme can readily access up-to-date aerial photos.

Spin. With the documentary I think you are referring to. Yes, the provenance was not fully disclosed. But that does not necessarily make it dishonest.

But those who feel it suits to get the knife in, might provide a bias view.

My main disagreement is paying a tax hidden as TV licence fee! Why can't the BBC survive on the income they get from ads etc?

Because it comes out of government ‘control’. Which is always a big balancing problem of being financed while remaining independent. A discussion which has been going on since it started.

In brief.

“The government does not have direct control over the BBC, as the organization is operationally and editorially independent, but it does have influence through its role in renewing the BBC's Royal Charter and appointing the BBC's chair. Regulatory oversight is handled by the independent body, Ofcom, which is responsible for broadcast content and complaints, while the government's influence is limited to the overarching Charter and the selection of the board chair.”

It is unique in the world which is its strength. Simply would not work if funding was voluntary.

Is it a joke when people say they have never seen ads on BBC1 TV? They were constant during the day and night, but as I have not watched BBC1 for a very long time, maybe it has changed and is now ad free like streaming services?

Honestly I’ve never seen an ad on bbc tv. There are trailers etc for upcoming programmes, or reminders for things on Iplayer but no ads. Other stations also run trailers for content. My two streaming services Netflix and Prime video both have adverts but nowhere near as intrusive as ITV, C5 etc.

Perhaps I don't watch enough BBC😜. Does anyone know who advertises on BBC? I've never seen or heard any?
