The time to change the caravan tyres has come. Problem is when i talk to the tyre companies found in most towns. I come away feeling they dont seem to understand caravan tyres are different to car tyres. Any recomdation for a mobile serve in Hampshire. How have you managed in the past to get tyres changed?

malcolm,

Ask your tyre dealer for 6 or 8 ply tyres, the same as they would fit to a van.

At the end of last year I changed the tyres on my caravan a Lunar Solar 462 I just took the wheels to a tyre dealer and he had no problem in fitting a pair of Continental Tyres, the same as the ones fitted by Lunar. Hope this helps. Allan

www.mytyres.co.uk can sort out appropriate tyres based on size and load rating. The price will be delivered only but an option will show the fitting charge in your area.

I used www.tyretraders.com last time I needed caravan tyres, mine still uses 13" which are getting more difficult to source.

Hi,

I have just used Backcircles.com and their price is fully inclusive for fitting at a local tyre depot. I suggest that you look on the web for the sort of tyres that you want. Some of the Chinese tyres are okay, but others are procured by an agent witha design who will then source the tyres from up to 50 little tyre suppliers. Quality could be an issue which has been raised by the tyre trade press. I'd stick to Avon, continental ora good commercial tyre producer such as Semperit (Continental. Recently I read an article that recommended going for commercial vehicle tyres (correct size, speed and load) as they would be easier to source if you were abroad.

Without reading the "Made in ...." stamped on the side of the tyre you can't possibly know where they're made just from the brand, even if you assume they're British or European.

I recently bought some Goodyear Excellence, their latest tyre, for my car - now many would think that Goodyear is a US owned British manufacturer but these tyres were made in China.

Major car manufacturers are already building cars in China, not just for the Asian market, Chinese-built Honda Jazz are here already!

That applies to just about any product nowadays. Who would think, for example, that the only Vauxhall to be produced in the UK is the 4-door hatchback?

To take matters to the extreme I opened a new pack of male underpants this week and the label said "Made in China" They fitted though - I was a bit surprised as I thought the Chineese were of a smaller statute than westerners.

Most people will remember 'Lucas' who made all sorts of bits for cars, well under another name they are still at it. They have several factories in China and among other things make nearly all the steering gear for cars made in Europe.
