Tyre pressure monitoring caps

As my car is relatively new it came with a built in Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Unfortunately the system cannot be extended to include trailer tyres. I have been looking on the internet at the mechanical tyre pressure monitor caps that can be fitted but have seen reports that, as the units keep the normal valve open, they are prone to leakage and you end up with a flat tyre in any case. There is one report where the clear plastic end cap came off and produced a flat tyrevirtually straight away. Has anyone got these fitted and what are their opinions?

What you need is this for the caravan wheels and if you get in touch with their technical dept ( by phone ) they will be able to tell you if you can pair your original sensors that are fitted in your wheels with the Tyrepal system, if you think about it new Bailey caravans come with the wheel sensors already fitted and only require pairing with the unit, it's got to be worth a phone call to find out and if it doesn't its no big problem because you could use one of these just to monitor the caravan wheels i have the earlier version of this and have used the rear wheel one's on the van without loss of signal and when i eventually decided to purchase the caravan one for the sake of a phone call i was told how to pair it with my original sensors, so for normal running about the TB99 sit's on the dash and when the van is connected i switch that unit off and turn the TC215B on to monitor the truck and caravan wheels together..
Simples .. ;)

Thanks King Sprocket, but what you're proposing is £100+ and another display in the car. The caps I was asking about are less than £5 each and I don't mind visually inspecting them. They are one step better than not having any at all, which is the case at the moment. :(

So are you saying they cost less than £5.00 each and ..........they are prone to leakage and you end up with a flat tyre in any case. There is one report where the clear plastic end cap came off and produced a flat tyre virtually straight away...................or have I misread?

I have just invested in the Tyre Pal system Sprocket is on about, clever stuff and peace of mind and interesting readings, caravan tyres set at 65lb and monitor read up to 74lb pressure whilst towing, on the kitchen side (extra weight) and 71lb on the other. Alarm will go off at 78lb on high pressure and 55lb on low pressure to warn of any problems. The alert alarm is adjustable to suit your tyre pressures.

I was specifically asking if anyone had first-hand experience of the mechanical type which are relatively cheap compared with the expensive electronic type. Yes, I did find one comment where an item failed catastrophically. It's a pity, now a TPMS is mandatory on cars, that they don't include facilities t add trailers. :(
