I have an Abi Papillon 2001 and have searched the handbook for the tyre pressures but can`t find them. Does anybody know what i should inflate them to or where i can find out.

Interesting - taking my Bailey Pageant S6 Bordeaux MTPLM 1300kg with 195/70 R14 LI96 the document recommends a "safe" tyre pressure of 39psi.

The Bailey handbook states 42psi which according to the tyre manufacturers documents is in the RED scale for this tyre?

Interestingly the other larger Pageant models of 1400kg have the same 42psi figure. But the new Pageant Bordeaux S7 which is heavier at 1321kg give a psi of 39 for the same tyre.

Have checked with Bailey and they say the 42psi is correct for my van. Will be going on a 4000km trip in June and want to ensure I get the tyre pressures right. So who is right Bailey or the Tyre Manufacturers???

Very confusing!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mark,

This is a common problem. If you cannot obtain a handbook the following formula may be useful.

A = Maximum loaded weight of caravan (there should be a plate on the 'van stating this figure).(Say 1300kg)

B = Maximum tyre pressure (stamped on tyre carcass - Say 73psi)

C= Maximum load of tyre (stamped on tyre carcass - Say 900kgs)

D = Number of wheels. (Say 2)

Multiply A - by B divided by C - then divide the result by D = this is the approximate tyre pressure.

i.e. :- 1311 x 73/900 = 106.3 divide this by number of wheels (2) = 53.2psi.

The figures above are based on my caravan, the handbook of which states tyre pressures are 54psi.

It sounds a bit complicated but is reasonably accurate if you have no other option.
