Tyre Pressures

The tyre pressure for my van is 3.7bar, now it crossed my mind that if I increased the pressure but obviously didn't exceed the max pressure for the tyre then it would lessen the road rolling resistence and therefore give me more mpg.

Am I missing something?

Totally agree with John, I would though say 'will' increase vibration.

3.7bar though is 54psi, for 6ply type tyres that is already the maximum pressure? only 8ply types go to a maximum 65psi/4.4bar

hi mate if you increase the pressure to the max when cold surely they will possibly exceed the max when driving and under load (by possibly overheating????

also your tyres are also your 'suspension' for the van but i can see where your coming from i'd double check what it says on the sidewall of the tyre it gives a lot of info on there

regards paul

For the record, standard atmospheric pressure or 1 bar is about 14.5psi although this will vary somewhat according to height a.s.l. and the weather.

The max pressure rating on the side tyres is to meet US DoT requirements and is not necessarily applicable in the UK.

Either way I wouldn't want to run my tyres at 3.7 bar - it would have the damn thing dancing all over the place, irrespective of consequental damage to the ball/towbar/bar mountings!!
