Tyre Year Of Manufacture Code

My van was built in 2008 and the code on the tyre is 5MCX Y9A

Can anyone tell me how to decipher when the tyres were made please?

Colin

Your van was built in 2008 and the code on the tyre is 5MCX Y9A

Have a look on here Tyresafe data it will show you how to work it out..

Thank you for the link, but still it does not decypher the code on my tyres which follow directly after the DOT as in

DOT 5MCX Y9A. these tyres were made before they started using the 4 diget date code like 1810 for tyres made this week.

Any ideas?

Have a look on the other side of the tyre, the date is only stamped on one side although they have the dot stamp on both. The other thing is the date stamp is formatted something like

Dot xxxxxxx (letters and numbers) 1209

Prior to the 1209 format it was 129< meaning 12th week 1999

What make & size are the tyres ?

If you put some talcum powder on your hand & rub it over the raised letters & numbers it will make them stand out for easier reading....

The make is AURORA made in Korea 175/65 R14 86T Extra Load. The lettering is easy to read as they are in excellent condition, factory fitted, and we have only covered about 2000 miles since we bought the van (twin axle Sterling Searcher) new in June 08.

On the Japanese Dunlop Grandtreks that I had on a previous car the DOT date stamp was only on one side. Just my luck it was on the inside wall.

It's pouring with rain here in Kent at the moment. I will look at the inside wall when it dries up but all 4 tyres are showing the same details.

Collin,

As I said up the page a bit, you will get the DOT 5MCX Y9A on one side of the tyre but on the other you should get something like...

DOT 5MCX Y9A 1209

on the pre 2000 tyres you will get something like....

DOT 5MCX Y9A 129< meaning 12th week 1999

hope this is of help to you

Thanks Martin"E" I will have a crawl around underneath for a good look. If all else fails I will ask my valued dealer in Stoke-on-Trent when the van has its second service in June.

Thanks to all who have helped.

Colin - Orpington.

Yes, It's worth the 200 miles and excellent service given by Lowe & Rhodes, but then we have the opportunity to enjoy the Peak District for a weeks break staying at Glencote caravan park in Cheddleton, up the road near Leak.

I can reconmmend both to anyone living or staying in the area.

Thanks Colin - Orpington.
