Hi, has anyone ever upgraded a 3 gas ring cooker to a dual fuel cooker? We have seen a nice new caravan but it only has the 3 rings and wife like to use the electric hot plate , thanks

Nope, but we have happily gone the other way; 3 gas rings plus one hot plate to 3 gas. Not a problem at all. Never used the hot plate anyway. Would it be cheaper, easier and more energy efficient to get one of those portable induction hob things?
IKEA have got one for £48.

Hi
We have a 4 burner gas hob and don't really use it we tend to use a double electric hotplate unit in the awning even if we are away in winter, we also have an air fryer /oven also used in the awning. So no cooking smells or condensation in the caravan.

Another vote for an induction hob, VASTLY better than any radiant hot plate. We use ours at home as well as in the caravan, certainly wouldn't be without one now. They are far more efficient than a radiant hob as all the energy goes into the base of the saucepan and none into the surrounding air. They are as controllable as a gas ring too.
Still don't understand how they work, but they do!

Can't answer your question, but I have a triangular three ring gas hob in my caravan. I don't think I'd buy a caravan with this setup again. Three rings would be fine, but the size and spacing is too restrictive, I can't get a decent size frying pan centrally over any of the burners. I've been thinking about getting a plug in electric hot plate to use instead.

This may well lead to a new thread.😉

Do I use the EHU or my gas cylinder😉Defo pros and cons for discussion.

As far as the OP goes anything is possible. He will have to ensure his caravan 230 v system can manage without any mods needed.

Have you contacted the caravan manufacturer and asked if they could perhaps install a different cooker if you paid the difference?
If you dont ask the question, yiu will never know the answer will you? The very worse that could happen is they say no.

Induction Hobs, produce strong magnetic flux at high frequencies. These can affect heart pacemakers, The medics will advise if you have a pacemaker don't use an induction hob. My wife had a pacemaker so I had to do the cooking.

I suspect if you have a standard sized gas hob unit that this could be replaced with a same sized unit with one electric hob but an expensive option that would need to be fitted by a registered gas engineer. I wonder what the objection is to using a gas unit?

In the 7 years that we have had our caravan, we have never used the electric hot plate as consider it a waste. Gas is quicker and more efficient. Also some sites limit the amp that can be used.

We have managed very well in our 2013 Coachman with the single electric hob and three gas rings, but you do need to have pots of the correct size.
Winter time we have an electric pressure cooker, summer time, we mostly BBQ.

Most household induction models typically have zones that range from 1200 to 1800watts or more.
Considering you only have say 3700 watts on a 16 amp EHU might prove problematic with everything else on.

Alternatively park up next to the Prof. He is an accomplished chef😉

Never seen the need for an induction hob in a caravan, however by the same token we use an air fryer in the caravan.

Exactly what I was thinking of getting. I don't suppose you know the weight do you?

Different name on mine but it looks the same.

1.1kg and the lead is 90cm. Because of the power rating it's slow to come up to temperature and you need to learn what setting to use for what occasion. Works fine for me now that I've mastered it.
