If I asked you to fetch me a vehicle to get from A to B, I'd be well annoyed if you came back with a Caravan!!

We are talking legalities as concerns a Trailer which I'll grant you is a vehicle in the general sense, but, in this discussion as you yourself point out, it's sub-divided and defined as a Trailer.

BTW, a bicycle is a vehicle, too. Maybe you would prefer that to get from A to B.

Unless stated otherwise, everything that applies to vehicles applies to trailers, too.

I've no wish to enter the debate but I would point out that the Department for Transport information on EC vehicle type approval lists caravans and other trailers under the Definition of Vehicle Categories

the manufacturer has buy the blank plate in, process the paperwork, record the new deatails, pass them on th cris, then mark up the new plate.

Just raising the paperwork probably costs upwards of
