URGENT ---using home insurance to travel

I did post this in Overseas but it both..

Has anyone gone away and used the travel insurance from their home insurance policies????

We're with Direct line read through and just a couple of quries which we will check.

But the FCO tells people to get insurance separately.

Do you have one?

Do you mean the personal possessions cover for things you take on holiday with you? And the cover for contents temporarily removed?

If so, we have that in our home contents, so do not insure the contents of our van with our caravan insurer (Caravan Club)

When we travel with caravan abroad, we always take the full Red Pennant cover, that does give some possessions cover, but if we are flying somewhere we do not take any extra cover.

It was personal insurance I waas talking about, we have phone D line and asked a few questions regarding the cover.

I copied the absolute caver needed from FCA and asked DL about a few which were not actually in the travel sectoin.
They asnswered all questions the only thing they say we are not covered for is terroism... Hubby rang and I rang twice..

Hi Smiley
Be very careful. The geographic limits of your policy may not be as wide as you think. Most will only cove rthe UK, some wil include EU countries.
The real solution is to ask your Insurers to explain in writing the full scope of your cover regarding "travel".
Otherwise I'm with Jennifer and would use Red Pennant.
