Possibly one of the best buys for those looking for the most reliable car on the road.

With so many mainstream car manufacturers only making soft roader type vehicles it's good to see Toyota sticking by the Avensis. As Ray says reliability rarely an issue with Toyota.

Loved my Avensis... had it for 3 years as a 12 plate with 20k on the clock ..got rid last September after putting another 70k on it in that time for something with a touch more towing capability but the Avensis was a perfect car regarding reliability.. just posted about the CX5 that replaced it,, Not Happy !!

Hi CarlosGee, what model did you have and what weight were you towing.

Am looking to tow 1497 MTPLM with an 2013 Avensis Tourer 2.0 diesel, if I can keep the weight down to around 1410 MTPLM it should be about an 85% match.

Cheers, Alan

Alan,
DO take care becasue with most UK caravans if you remove nearly 90Kg from the payload, it will leave a very paltry amount which will quickly be swallowed up with the essential basics (gas, battery, Ehu cable, water and waste containers, cutlery crockery, fluids etc.)

Carlos Gee, Not sure what you are planning to tow with the Avensis, but as the Prof says knocking 90kg off the loading allowance for most caravans will leave you very short of capacity. Many caravans are over the unladen weight posted when they leave the factory, so your idea to me may be a none starter. In addition if the caravan has any extras like a motor mover fitted these have already eaten into the payload and could make the situation worse. If you could weigh the caravan empty then you could get a better idea of what you could achieve.
Having said that 85% is not a legal requirement and exceeding it by a small margin should be acceptable, if you are experienced at towing then I would be happy up to say 90%.
