click on 'Edit Profile', change your username in the box marked 'nickname then click on 'Update' and your username will change.

If you want to change your username that's not a problem as long as you let us know.

Multiple usernames are not allowed and posts containing them are deleted.

You might have to click on the link which invites you to change your personal details and password. Re enter your password, then go back and click on update and see if that works Blightlander

Hi Parksy,

I have the exact same problem, I noticed that someone else in the forum uses the same user name as myself. I have tried changing my username but it keeps re-setting back to my original user name.

I just logged in using my partner Carole's details from her side of the computer and changed the username from her name to mine then back again. This is what I did.

Change your username in the box from the EDIT PROFILE programme.

Hover the pointer of your mouse over the UPDATE box.

You might notice a small sign tag bearing the word REMOVE

Wait for this to disappear.

After hovering the mouse pointer for about ten seconds click on UPDATE and the userame change should be successful.

If this doesn't work first time try it for a couple of times more, it works in the end.

Parksy,

When I log in my username is changed to the new one that I created, but when I post a message my old username appears. I tried editing it as you said (about a dozen times) with no luck.

Hi 'D'

I had to try several times, re set the password and take things slowly and step by step when I tried with 'Carole's' account.

I changed the username over and then back to the original but moderators have no access to other members log in details so I'm very limited as to the advice that I can offer, sorry.

I've forwarded the details of this problem to our forum administrator who may be able to help.

I meant to add that the problem seems to be with the 'UPDATE' button.

Every time that I clicked on it the edited username just went back to what it was before.

It was only after I hovered the mouse pointer over the 'UPDATE' button before clicking it that the newly entered username worked.

Tori should be back in her office tomorrow morning and no doubt she will look at the problem.

Still at least it has given us something to smile at ...... and yet another thing to remind me that my brain doesn't work as well as it used to. I spent at least a couple of days wondering idly what a "weeb" might be in Scotland that it needs lighting, before it clicked.

Incidentally I successfully became Mike A after a few months as just Mike - so the rename bit does work sometimes.

Cheers

D - can you let me know what your username was before you changed it?

'weeblighter' - There's already another Highlander in the database, which might explain the issues you've been having (as you might expect, There Can be Only One) - probably a throwback to the days when the databse wasn't quite so 'intelligent'. Can you choose another one for me and I'll see if I can sort it out for you? 'Highlander 2 - The Quickening', perhaps...

regards

And this time, I've worked out how the forum works, so this is a reply rather than a comment...

Hello John,

Welcome to the front end of your web site, I hope you washed your hands after all that toil in the boiler room.

I am sure the waccy world of the Practical Caravan steam driven website has more than its fair share of bugs and "features" but usernames can't only be single use - as many of us have discovered. When I first started on the site there were at least three people called Mike; and I am sure we have recently seen an exchange between a matching pair of Nigels.

Good luck in chasing down the glitch.

I won't go into too many of the technicalities, but the display name on the website can come from two places. If you edit your profile and put a nickname in, it comes from there; if you don't, it uses the first name from your registered details. Now there's only one person in the databse with the *nickname* of Mike, but lots of people with the first name Mike, if that makes sense. And though I haven't tried it, I suspect if Highlander removed 'weeblighter' from his nickname, that it would revert to using the first name from his registration details, which he's actually put in as 'highlander'.
