hi all

I was just wondering how long it took every body else to find all the equipment and gadgets on their vans (useful or not).

having bought our ranger second hand and not having the caravan pack supplied with new vans we have had to discover all its equipment on a adhoc basis while in use.

so far this year we have discoverd?

1. a space under the cooker for pans (thought there should be one but could not open it,

2. winter covers on the electolux fridge which had never been off.(I wondered why the fridge cupboard got hot)

3.front locker light (never worked no bulb )just found it after reading a previous thread on here.

4.after examining the water system for red drain plugs found on the water inlet an attachment that appears to be for a outside cold shower plug?? (what would one want on of them for).

I wonder what else there is that I have not found yet any ideas?

"Front locker light"?

I got a new Bailey Ranger but i have never found a front locker light.

But then I've only had it three years. I'm sure there's nowt in the book about one but i'm off to check now.

Doorway switch that kills all 12 volt lights hidden by fire blanket.

Kitchen extractor with filter that has never been cleaned or replaced plus extractror outlet pipes that come detached so any extracted air heats over head cupboard.

You are not alone in leaving the fridge vent covers on.

If you aren't told about them then you don't know

The door under the cooker usually opens if you push it at the top like some car ash trays.loking at the pic in the 2007 Bailey brochure I would try the push

Hi Colin, I can't find anything in the book about a front locker light so i will have to search next time i get it out.

Your item 4, from "the book", seems to be an extra called called an 'Aquasource direct mains water connection'. Comes with 7.5m of foodgrade layflat hose and the system controls the pressure to 1bar. There would have been a booklet listing parks where you can use the system.

Another thing you may never find is an adjustable baffle down behind the roomheater. On mine you just lift the loose panel out from the bottom of the wardrobe and lean in the space with a torch. The baffle can be swung in its 'Y' shaped housing to direct the hot air more one way than the other. I set mine to send most air to the vent at the front of the van and very little to the vent in the washroom.

I can't think where the kitchen extractor is Jazman. Don't think we have one on ours.

I forgot Colin,

To drain the system you find a yellow lift valve next to the hot water tank under the bunk. In the vertical position it drains the system, laid down either side closes it. There is no other drain point mentioned in the book.

hi john and tram.

thanks for your comments, we did get the cupboard open eventualy while cleaning the cooker think I pressed too hard on the door and it opened,

tram, thanks for the tip on the baffle yes it is there must admit I have never had the wardrobe flap up to look behind the heater, also found a leather belt and a soft ball?

the attachment on the water inlet only has a blocked off plug in no pipes or anything with it so dont know what is it for??, I will investigate this further.

the locker light (just dicovered today) its a car type one stuck on with adhesive pads right at the top front under the recess and takes a small peanut bulb, this could have been fitted by a previous owner , although this is difficult to asess as most of the bailey equipment looks like it has been fitted by a inept diy

I am one of those people which search everywhere, for handbooks like our Coachman its like they are talking about another model, only a few obviouse things are mentioned.Like many vans they wire in harness for all models but do not connect unless that model requirs it. However thats what i look for and how i can put it to use other than what they had in mind,

I am waiting for someone to post that they have found a device at the front of the van that clips onto a towball.

The owner of our new storage yard swears that a couple bought a brand new van over 2 years ago and took it on its first trip this easter!

I've heard a similar story Garry, A storage place we looked at had no vacancies so,as it was big. I asked why. The owner said he had lots of 'vans in storage that had not been visited for years. The cheque for storage turned up every year though. It suited him and i'm sure he would like more people to do that. Why don't they just sell up?

At the time I bought my (German) van there were a number of posting to the effect that owners had found a plastic bag containing a spare set of keys stapled up under the van near the door. Not on mine, but worth a look ?

If you have a Burstner, you may find what looks like a very long shoe horn in a fitting near the door. The main purpose of this is, it seems, to enable those of us built fairly close to the ground to hook the catch of the small roof light over the fixed bed (but the other end does indeed make a good shoe horn for those of us the wrong shape for bending down too much)

We didn't know about an external locker box light (the full length ones normally housed on the off-side of the caravan! It 'inadvertently' was left in the 'ON' position by the dealership following pre-delivery inspection!!! Flattened our battery in no time!

We found a set on our new French popup in exactly this way last year.
