While I know Milton is safe on plastics can someone confirm that it is not harmful to the workings of the Carver water heater itself and other metal fittings. I remember reading a leter once in a caravan mag' where someone left Milton to soak in his sink and it dissolved the waste strainer at the bottom.

Hi

We have been using Milton for the last 15 Years. We have had no problem.

Milton comes in a plastic bottle so I do not see how it could melt plastic?

If its ok to be used for baby item I,e bottles spoons etc etc.

I think you will be safe dont you.

Follow the intruction on th back of the bottle.

Bigfoot,

I've been using Milton as my water steralisation method since about 1982, based on the principle that if it's safe enough for steralising baby feed bottles it's safe enough for us adults.

All you need to do is follow the instructions re how much Milton per litre of water.

The way I do it is, rinse the aquaroll out with clean water, then fill it half full, put in the required amount of Milton (obvoiusly depends on the capacity of your water container) then fill the aquaroll up to the brim, this ensures that the Milton is thoroughly mixed.

I then connect up & run the mix through all the pipes by letting it run through each tap location in turn, using both the hot & cold, but not together, this ensures it runs through both the hot & cold systems, keep running it through untill the aquaroll empties, when it does, rinse out the aquaroll a couple of times with fresh water, whilst doing this let the Milton mix sit in the pipework for about 15 - 20 mins, finally run a couple of aquarolls full of fresh water through the system by using each tap location in turn, to flush out the remaining Milton mixture.

This I've done on the last 5 vans;

Van 1. 82 - 90 = 8yrs (foot pump, then converted to electric pump)

Van 2. 90 - 94 = 4yrs

Van 3. 94 - 2000 = 6yrs

Van 4. 2000 - 2006 = 6yrs

Van 5. 2006 - present = 1.5yrs

Yes I've gone through a few pumps during that time, but have never had a failure of a water heater unit, nor to my knowledge has the Milton eaten through or disolved any metal part of the water systems, and we have never had any tummy upsets through drinking or cooking with the water from the pipework (both UK & continental).

We use Miltons no probs.

However, we don't drink the water which goes through the caravan system. It's ok for showering etc.

We keep some big water bottles and fill them up at the tap and use the water for drinking.
