Hi, Could anyone tell me of their experiences of taking vans as tow vehicle onto sites in France. We have a Mercedes Vito which is a small sized van and which we've had windows put in the sides as we have a seat in the back so doesnt look like a commercial vehicle. Its about the size of a people carrier but we did hear of some sites not letting vans on. Does anyone know if this would be a problem in France?

Hello Charlotte,

In my experience it's not a problem. I've been on many French sites and seen vehicles such as yours on site. Some have been British, but many are Dutch. Shouldn't be a problem, but if you're concerned, contact your prospective sites before you go an ask the question.

Nigel.

Hi Charlotte,

You will most likely find that the privately owned sites aren't too much of a problem but each town has a municipal site and they will most likely refuse you and they also don't like twin axle caravans, so if you have a twin axle van you will probably find it difficult all round.

France has a big big problem with "Itinerants" and hard as you try at some sites they will turn youaway.

Speaking from experience as a caravanner in France and we also have a framhouse in the South Loire, but whatever you do don't stay at the aires.
