are you using the 85% rule? as I usually tow about 1250 miles per year and have been told I can tow my kerb weight????

No, I am going by the manufacturer's technical specification which is legally binding. The 85% rule, or better, recommendation, has no legal significance. What you are probably referring to is what your driving licence entitles you to drive (if you passed your test after the 1st January 1997 and you don't have a category B+E licence).
