Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport first drive

This week we've been driving the new Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport, ahead of its appearance at our Tow Car Awards test week. Get our first impressions by clicking here.

Hi Lizzie

Do you mean "The other was the towing pack, at a slightly eye-watering £685. For that you get a detachable tow bar that, once attached and pushed out of view, can be revealed at the tug of a lever, accompanied by a piercing beep."

My Insignia is 18 months old and has a factory-fitted retractable tow bar which pushes out of view by means of a tug on a lever, hence the eye-watering money. Yes, the alarm is very piercing during its transition from securely stowed to securely open, and vice-versa. I wouldn't expect a detachable tow bar to be able to be pushed out of view, one would just detach it.

Good point, I totally agree, and it is something I have been trying to establish. On the car I drove it was attached and, as you say, using the lever you can bring it into view and hide it. However, in the options list it is described as 'detachable'. I will update you (and the article!) when I know more.

Still, thanks for reading it!

I've heard back from Vauxhall and it was indeed a mistake in the company's literature – the tow bar is retractable, not detachable. I've updated the article, too!
